ABOUT THE ROLE
We are seeking an Electrical Safety Officer to join our team supporting the Los Alamos National Laboratory! This position is full-time and will be based out of Los Alamos, New Mexico. The Electrical Safety Officer at Los Alamos National Laboratory (LANL) will be responsible for overseeing the Electrical Safety Program, providing expertise in electrical safety, and serving as the primary contact for electrical safety-related concerns. This role will involve providing electrical safety support to construction projects, working directly with project managers, craft, work planners, and field professionals to ensure effective implementation of electrical safe work practices, conducting incident investigations, leading safety assessments, and collaborating with various teams to ensure compliance with safety standards. The position requires advanced knowledge in electrical engineering and safety protocols, and candidates must have excellent communication, collaboration, leadership, and technical problem-solving skills.
Responsibilities
- Serve as the primary contact on electrical safety and administer the LANL Electrical Safety Program. 
- Act as a resource for LANL employees and managers regarding electrical safety concerns. 
- Conduct incident investigations and determine root causes, developing corrective actions as necessary. 
- Perform workplace condition inspections to identify electrical hazards in various environments. 
- Lead reviews of Integrated Work Documents (IWD) and Lockout/Tagout (LOTO) procedures. 
- Contribute to the development of codes, standards, and specifications for electrical equipment safety. 
- Provide advanced support to engineers/scientists in solving complex technical problems. 
- Participate in the evaluation of controlled items and services for compliance with electrical safety requirements. 
- Perform calculations to determine electrical severity scores for incidents. 
- Develop written electrical safety policies, procedures, and design standards. 
Requirements
- Education & Years of Experience – Bachelor’s Degree and 7 years of field experience or equivalent combination of education and/or experience may be considered in lieu of a degree. 
- Citizenship – To be considered, you must be a United States (U.S.) citizen due to the federal nature of the work. 
- Clearance – To be considered, you must be able to secure and maintain a U.S. Department of Energy (DOE) Q level security clearance. 
- Advanced knowledge of electrical safety standards including NFPA, IEEE, and OSHA, particularly NFPA 70E. 
- Must have PRIOR experience in a DOE CAT II Nuclear Facility 
- Experience with electrical engineering/technology in various applications such as low voltage AC and DC systems. 
- Significant experience with personal computer systems and software, including Microsoft Office. 
- Have prior experience conducting incident investigations and determine root causes, be able to develop corrective actions when necessary. 
- Demonstrated expert communication and organizational skills for presenting complex technical information. 
- Ability to pass Radiological Worker II training.

The NNSA's Los Alamos National Laboratory (LANL), located in Los Alamos, New Mexico, is a design laboratory responsible for the safety and reliability of the nuclear explosives package in nuclear weapons. This lab possesses unique capabilities in neutron scattering, enhanced surveillance, radiography, and plutonium science and engineering (energy.gov).
