Objective:  To foster a dynamic and creative learning environment that engages students in the creation of art and the exploration of science through student-centered, differentiated instruction.

Class Description: St. Andrew’s Art Science class is a unique blend of art and science disciplines in which students are encouraged to create, innovate, design and explore.  

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Prepare engaging, age appropriate lessons that reflect extensive knowledge of the disciplines of art and science and student development and abilities.
  • Utilize a variety of teaching methods to meet the needs of students and develop their artistic abilities.
  • Encourage creativity and self-expression in students through the consistent creation of art projects and assignments.
  • Organize areas for student art displays and maintain student art portfolios to share with families.
  • Stay up-to-date with new art techniques, technologies, and trends to enhance teaching methods and student learning.
  • Participate in the continuing development of an inquiry-based curriculum that prepares students to be critical, creative, and independent thinkers.
  • Demonstrate strong classroom management.
  • Monitor students’ progress, strengths, and weaknesses, and communicate these when necessary to the classroom teacher, parents/guardians, and/or administrators.
  • Collaborate with colleagues across the early childhood center and lower school as well as the co-curricular team and art department.
  • Attend and contribute in full, divisional, departmental, and team faculty meetings.
  • Take an active role in professional activities and attend relevant professional meetings and conferences.
  • Stay abreast of the latest advances in early childhood and art education.

Work Environment:
This job operates in a professional school environment. 

Position Type:
This is a part-time position (13 hours per week) with teaching responsibilities from August – May. The 13 hours per week includes 7.5 hours of instructional time and 5.5 hours of instructional planning time and monthly co-curricular faculty meetings.

Qualifications


Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in early childhood education, elementary education, or related field required. Master’s degree preferred.
  • A minimum of three years teaching experience preferred. 
  • Demonstrate extensive knowledge of early childhood level pedagogy.
  • Demonstrate a passion for art and a commitment to promoting creativity and self-expression in students.
  • Knowledge of and experience with project-based learning preferred.
  • Represent the school in the larger community in a positive manner that reflects the values of the school.
  • Ability to interface and maintain effective relationships with students, faculty, administrators, and parents/guardians.
  • High degree of cultural competency and demonstrated commitment to working with individuals from diverse backgrounds. 
  • Professional written and verbal communication, organizational, and interpersonal skills.
  • Proficiency in Google Suite required.
