Overview

Assists with the administration of health & welfare benefit programs and provides support on special benefit projects.

Responsibilities

  • Administers short and long term absence and leave programs, including determination and maintenance of eligibility, processing of leave requests, documentation and records set-up, solicitation of approvals, transition from ST to LT programs, status tracking, maintenance of relationship with employees on leave, management of return-to-work reminders, and interface with payroll and with carriers. Ensures coordination with worker’s compensation programs.
  • Answers questions, routes calls to carriers, and resolves issues for active employees regarding absence and leave policies, programs, and transactions. Works with employees to investigate, mediate, and resolve billing problems, claim form completion, and other issues or employee disputes with carriers.
  • Counsels new and existing employees seeking information and guidance concerning any absence and leave benefits, eligibility, and available options. Advises them concerning policies, procedures, and applicable legislation.
  • Advises managers and supervisors on specific employee situations, answering questions pertaining to short-and long-term absence and leave programs, eligibility, extensions, and return-to-work.
  • Audits absence and leave programs, reconciles data, and resolves inconsistencies.
  • Analyzes and evaluates the utilization, trends experience of all absence and leave benefit programs, identifies opportunities to improve program impact or delivery efficiency, and recommend changes.
  • Supports the Benefits Manager with the administration of other health & welfare benefit programs, particularly with responding to employee questions and processing transactions.
  • Performs other duties as required or assigned.
  • Qualifications

    • Bachelor’s degree in Human Resources or related field with 3 year of experience in human resources or the equivalent in education and experience required.
    • Completion of some courses on FMLA preferred.
    • Extensive knowledge of absence and leave programs required.
    • Extensive knowledge of the Clinic and Hospital Defined Benefit and Defined Contribution plans required.
    • Strong interpersonal communication and organizational skills with proficiency in Microsoft Word, Excel and Outlook required.
    • Must be able to function as a team member, yet take initiative to prioritize work, handle multiple tasks, and meet deadlines.
