The Underwriting Senior Accountant will provide all underwriting accounting functions and will be the point person for accounting in all interaction with the Underwriting desk.

Responsibilities

  • Maintain and record journal entries for underwriting accounts within three operating systems (FIS, LV365  and Oracle) with the closing of underwriting deals. 
    • Process underwriting deal invoices through Concur.
  • Accounting’s liaison with the underwriting department
  • Contributes to the timely completion of monthly accounting close through the preparation of month end accruals, schedules and reconciliations.
    • Periodically evaluate current processes to determine what could be streamlined and assist in the implementation of targeted improvements.
  • Prepares reconciliations of deal reporting within the Denali general ledger function – research and make corrections, if needed
  • Assist with the maintenance of the existing internal controls over financial reporting and as needed work with others in the organization to review, improve and update the process and related control descriptions. 
    • Helps define/evaluate process issues.
    • Assists in the analysis of root cause defects.
    • Assists in the development of process improvement opportunities.
  • Assist with daily incoming and outgoing wires, including release – backup. 
  • Assist with housing settlements.
  • Complete the monthly Insurance commission audits.
  • Other duties and projects as assigned.

Qualifications

  • Undergraduate degree in Accounting, preferred.
  • Minimum of 3 years of industry accounting or 2 years of public accounting
  • Series 99 licensing/or pursuit of Series 99 preferred
  • Excellent communication and analytical skills, including attentional to detail with the ability to analyze work product, systems and processes at a detailed level.
  • Knowledge of general ledgers, journal entries and month end closing procedures
  • Strong PC skills, including word processing and spreadsheets via Microsoft Office products as well as various business solution and customer applications, systems and software.  Must have the ability to learn and utilize customer systems and applications.
    • Experience with FIS/Loanvision(LV365)/Denali/Oracle/Concur/BRAC a plus.
  • Able to adapt to a changing environment.
  • Strong time management, organizational and critical thinking skills, including the ability to act and operate independently.
