 MWA Architects is seeking a talented licensed architect to join our growing Infrastructure Design Studio in Portland. Our team is dedicated to designing sustainable, resilient, and beautiful public infrastructure facilities throughout the Pacific Northwest and beyond. We collaborate with exceptional clients and consultants – from engineers to utilities and municipalities - building long-term relationships through trust and teamwork.  


We’re looking for a responsible, enthusiastic, and well-organized architect who excels at communication and coordination with team members, clients, and consultants. The ideal candidate is detail-oriented, self-motivated, and capable of guiding projects from design through construction. You should be comfortable working across a range of building types, scales, and architectural styles, and bring a passion for thoughtful, high-performing design to every project.

Your responsibilities: 

  • Coordinate with studio directors and project managers to schedule and prioritize project assignments. 
  • Lead project teams through all phases of the design process from programming to the development of design concepts to the technical detailing for individual buildings and multi-building campuses. 
  • Participate in design conversations and assist and/or lead project teams through MWA’s design process. 
  • Lead design and/or technically focused meetings and presentations with clients and other stakeholders. 
  • Oversee and review technical documents for standards, code compliance, constructability, and industry best practices. 
  • Maintain relationships with project subconsultants and oversee multi-discipline design and drawing coordination. 
  • Provide mentorship to junior staff and offer guidance on assigned tasks.  
  • Research building assemblies, materials, and products and lead in the development of related specification data and construction details. 
  • Participate in and/or lead construction administration tasks, including site visits throughout but not limited to Oregon, Washington, and Idaho and QC reviews of submittal and RFI responses. 
  • Participate in and/or lead firm-wide strategic planning initiative efforts. 

Requirements 

  • ?Architecture licensure in the United States, with licensure in Oregon and/or Washington being preferred.  
  • A Bachelor’s degree in Architecture from an accredited program 
  • Minimum eight years of experience within a small to medium-sized firm/studio environment with at least two years of experience in highly technical project types such as public infrastructure, industrial, administration offices, control rooms, laboratories, health care, maintenance facilities, public works, or transportation facilities.? 
  • Proficiency in Revit, AutoCAD, Bluebeam, and Microsoft Office required.  
  • Excellent verbal and written communicator. 
  • This position requires in-person work at our Portland office Tuesday through Thursday.? A  hybrid schedule with optional work from home days on Mondays and Fridays is currently offered and is subject to team needs. 

Salary Range: 

  • At MWA Architects, base pay is one part of our total compensation package and is determined within a range. The base pay range for this role is between, $87,000 and $105,000 and will depend on your skills, qualifications, licensure, and years of experience.
