About Bree

Bree is a consumer finance platform that brings better, faster, and cheaper financial services to over half the Canadian population who live paycheck to paycheck. We operate in a huge, but overlooked market in a country with the least amount of financial technology innovation in the developed world. Our first act is to become the cheapest and best provider of short-term credit to the 20 million people in Canada who live paycheck to paycheck.

More than half a million Canadians have already signed up with Bree, and we believe we are just scratching the surface. We are in an exciting place where we have product market fit, explosive growth, and a clear path to becoming one of the most important FinTechs in Canada.

We have over $6M ARR per full-time engineer, growing at a double-digit monthly rate, profitable, and have had 0 voluntary employee churn. We were part of Y Combinator in 2021 and raised a $2M seed round shortly after.

About the Role

Bree is on a mission to build the best AI native engineering team. Our ideal candidate thrives at the intersection of technology, process, and product delivery. Read more about AI native engineering teams here.

What You'll Do

  • Partner with the Head of Engineering and product leads to plan and execute high-impact initiatives, ensuring smooth delivery from concept to deployment.

  • Manage system-level projects across backend services, data pipelines, and integrations in a regulated FinTech environment.

  • Leverage AI tools like Claude Code and Cursor to streamline project documentation, QA tracking, and sprint planning.

  • Define and maintain technical roadmaps, ensuring architecture decisions, scaling strategies, and performance goals are aligned with company milestones.

  • Drive cross-functional communication, proactively identifying risks, dependencies, and opportunities for automation.

  • Champion observability, reliability, and resilience across all projects, ensuring uptime and scalability for millions of users.

What You'll Need

  • Strong background in technical project or program management, ideally within FinTech, SaaS, or high-growth startups.

  • Deep understanding of backend systems, distributed architectures, and event-driven design. You don’t need to code daily, but you can diagram and debate system trade-offs with engineers.

  • Familiarity with modern engineering stacks (TypeScript, PostgreSQL, gRPC, Kafka, Go/Rust) and cloud-native deployment practices.

  • Proven ability to deliver complex software projects on time by aligning priorities across technical and non-technical teams.

  • Exceptional clarity in communication, documentation, and process thinking.

  • Comfort operating in high-autonomy, low-hierarchy environments where speed and precision matter.
