Summary:
The Chief Strategy and Consulting Officer is a leadership role and a critical member of the Valued Pharmacy Services (VPS) consulting team. This role has multiple directors as direct reports, and the AVP of Drug Policy as a direct report. This role leads our entire consulting team who hold our direct relationships and relationships with our distribution partners including brokers and private equity companies and assumes complete responsibility for maintaining a positive relationship between VPS and our external stakeholders. This role coordinates VPS services with clients, while advocating for their interests with providers, and serving as liaison to other internal and external partners. The role also plays a major advisory role, by developing overall business strategy regarding Pharmacy Benefits Management (PBM) industry fundamentals, clinical opportunities, emerging trends, and best practices.
This position is also responsible for the education of the internal staff to advance VPS’ efforts to increase market share by providing innovative, and cost-effective benefit designs that help maximize the client’s effort to provide an affordable pharmacy benefit while minimizing disruption to their employees.
Principal Duties and Responsibilities / Essential Functions:
- Develop and maintain effective working relationships in a strategic liaison role between VPS and internal and external partners, such PBMs, brokers, clients, and other staff.
- Share clinical insights and clinical program recommendations with external stakeholders
- Operate as a Subject Matter Expert through the entire PBM industry
- Demonstrate knowledge and understanding of team’s book of business; including business model, organizational structure, and current news and/or changes.
- Proficiency in the VPS and PBM marketplace, including carrier contacts, services, and underwriting requirements
- Present and explain financial proposals, contracts, benefit designs, and pricing to stakeholders; research and answer questions posed.
- Ensure accuracy and quality of contracts, claims processing, benefit design audits, and financial reports.
- Represent company as a clinical pharmacy benefit subject matter expert at conferences which may include public speaking events
- Mediate between client, brokers, and PBM partners to independently resolve service problems. Specifically, assist in resolving billing, claim, eligibility, COBRA, and
- customer service issues when escalations arise above Directorship level.
- Collaborate with internal and external stakeholders to manage benefit implementations.
- Developing reporting strategies that scale across the entire book of business.
- Relationship building with external stakeholders; establish and promote goodwill with VPS.
- Host clients and stakeholders at VPS office and/or carrier facilities, as needed.
- Prepare reports deemed necessary by the President.
- Meet or exceed departmental goals established by the President.
- Keep industry skills and knowledge current by participating in seminars and classes for continuing education.
- Assist with the development of job aids, and training materials.
- Present a positive image of self and of VPS, in and out of the office, to fellow employees, clients, providers, and the community.
- Conduct special projects at the request of the President.
Minimum Requirements for Education, Experience, and Certifications/Licenses:
- Licensed pharmacist in any state. PharmD required.
- Prefer 8+ years’ experience in leading teams, clinical consulting, and analysis of pharmaceutical products and/or clinical programs. Preferably with a PBM or Health System.
Qualifications & Skills:
- Thorough knowledge of the Employee Benefits industry, and PBM specifically
- Advanced knowledge in pharmaceutical clinical review practices
- Excellent research skills
- Ability to read, analyze and interpret industry policies, contracts, proposals, and other documentation
- Excellent oral and written communication skills and command of the English language
- Ability to apply basic mathematical concepts such as percentages, adding, subtracting, multiplying and division to required tasks
- High degree of critical thinking, organizational and decision-making skills
- Ability to define problems, collect and analyze data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions
- High degree of initiative and diligence
- Ability to function independently with minimal supervision
- Ability to prioritize multiple projects and meet objectives and deadlines established, often with short turnaround times
- Ability to maintain positive relationships with department staff, cross-functional departments, and external stakeholders
- Proficient in MS Excel, Word, Outlook, and PowerPoint
- Ability to comply with company confidentiality requirements as well as with HIPAA and other applicable government regulations
Travel:
- This position requires travel 20% of the time, with occasional overnight trips.

The base salary range for this position is $188,000 to $288,000. The base salary offered will be determined by factors including, but not limited to, experience, credentials, education, certifications, skill level required for the position, the scope of the position, and geographic location. Actual base salary offered will be determined on a case-by-case basis. In addition to the base salary, this position may be eligible for performance-based incentives.
