POSITION SUMMARY:
The Maintenance Area Team Lead is a hands-on technical leader responsible for overseeing and prioritizing corrective maintenance tasks during assigned shifts. This role ensures timely response to equipment failures, supports safe and efficient operations, and drives continuous improvement in maintenance execution. The Team Lead works closely with mechanics, electricians, and production teams to maintain equipment reliability and minimize downtime.
CORE RESPONSIBILTITIES:
Shift Leadership & Task Prioritization
- Lead maintenance crews during assigned shifts, ensuring corrective tasks are executed safely, efficiently, and with high quality, including reporting and entering a follow up request after a temporary corrective maintenance.
- Prioritize work orders based on production needs, safety risks, and equipment criticality.
- Serve as the first point of contact for troubleshooting equipment issues and coordinating emergency repairs.
- Communicate shift activities, issues, and completed tasks to incoming teams and supervisors.
- Responsible for executing planned activities when no corrective maintenance is being required.
Technical Oversight
- Provide hands-on support and guidance for mechanical, electrical, and hydraulic repairs.
- Ensure proper use of tools, PPE, and maintenance procedures in line with site safety standards.
- Support root cause analysis (RCA) for recurring failures and assist in implementing corrective actions.
- Maintain accurate records of completed work in the CMMS (SAP), including parts used and labor hours.
- Conduct daily equipment walkdowns to detect early signs of wear or failure
- Facilitate rapid root cause analysis (RCA) immediately after critical breakdowns
- Ensure lessons learned from failures are integrated into PM routines and SOPs
Reliability & Preventive Maintenance Support
- Assist in executing and improving preventive maintenance (PM) routines.
- Identify opportunities to reduce unplanned downtime and improve equipment reliability.
- Monitor equipment condition and escalate concerns to engineering or reliability teams.
- Support TPM initiatives and basic condition checks performed by operators.
Team Development & Training
- Mentor junior technicians and support cross-training across maintenance disciplines.
- Participate in safety meetings and lead toolbox talks focused on maintenance best practices.
- Provide feedback on technician performance and help identify training needs.
Safety & Compliance
- Enforce safe work practices and ensure compliance with lockout/tagout and other safety procedures.
- Maintain clean and organized work areas, promoting a culture of safety and accountability.
- Report safety incidents, near misses, and equipment hazards promptly.
EXPERIENCE, SKILLS & KNOWLEDGE
- 5+ years of hands-on industrial maintenance experience in mechanical, electrical, or multi-skilled roles.
- Strong troubleshooting skills across mechanical, hydraulic, pneumatic, and electrical systems.
- Familiarity with CMMS systems (preferably SAP) and basic documentation practices.
- Ability to read and interpret technical drawings and schematics.
- Proven leadership ability in a shift-based, team-oriented environment.
- Strong communication and coordination skills across departments.
- Commitment to safety, quality, and continuous improvement.
EDUCATION & CERTIFICATIONS
- High school diploma or GED required.
- Technical certification or vocational training in industrial maintenance preferred.
- OSHA 10/30, LOTO, and other relevant safety certifications a plus.
- Willingness to pursue additional training in reliability tools and leadership development.
