About MBRDI:
Mercedes-Benz Research and Development India (MBRDI), headquartered in Bengaluru with a satellite office in Pune, is the largest R&D center for Mercedes-Benz Group AG outside of Germany. Our mission is to drive innovation and excellence in automotive engineering, digitalization, and sustainable mobility solutions, shaping the future of mobility.
Key Responsibilities:
• Define measurement systems, locator strategies, and tolerance specifications for Body-in-White (BiW) components and exterior trims in alignment with styling and manufacturing requirements.
• Ensure robustness of the measurement system across the complete BiW—from part fabrication to final assembly.
• Analyze functional requirements of BiW and create measurement strategies to ensure accurate module fitment.
• Discuss and align tolerance concepts with relevant stakeholders to ensure manufacturing feasibility.
• Perform 1D, 2D, and 3D tolerance stack-up studies during the development phase to identify production risks and propose effective solutions related to measurement strategy, alignment, tolerance specification, or assembly sequence.
• Execute 3D tolerance simulations using 3DCS, applying correct probability distributions to replicate manufacturing processes digitally and validate concept robustness.
• Create and implement Gap & Flush plans and concepts to achieve desired visual quality standards.
• Collaborate with cross-functional teams (CFT) to incorporate feedback and deliver optimized solutions.
• Develop and align sub-module and closure integration concepts to ensure proper fitment and support production planning requirements.
• Ensure quality and timely delivery of all project-related deliverables.
Required Skills and Experience:
• 2–5 years of experience in automotive Body-in-White (BiW) design, measurement, and tolerance analysis.
• Proficiency in 3D tolerance simulation tools—3DCS preferred.
• Strong understanding of GD&T (Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing) and SPC (Statistical Process Control).
• Knowledge of manufacturing processes and assembly operations in automotive BiW.
• Familiarity with different measurement systems and inspection methods.
• Hands-on experience with Siemens NX.
• Understanding of perceived quality and visual alignment requirements.
• Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with attention to detail.
• Effective communication and collaboration with cross-functional teams.
Educational Qualifications:
• Bachelor’s / Master’s degree in Mechanical / Automotive / Production Engineering or related disciplines.
Preferred Qualifications (Good to Have):
• Experience in Tolerance Stack-up Analysis and 3DCS simulations within automotive OEM environments.
• Exposure to Daimler systems or global project collaborations.
• Understanding of body design standards and manufacturing feasibility studies.
