Salary Range: $14.75 per hour, subject to increase based on experience. This position includes employee benefits.
The job of Education Assistant - Houseparent is done for the purpose/s of assisting teachers and staff; communicating with students, teachers and parents concerning academics and assisting students on the ICU list; acting as a liaison and resource between school and community services; providing information and guidance to students and families on services available through the District; conveying information regarding school and/or district activities and procedures. This job reports to the High School Principal.
General Requirements Experience: Job related experience is desired. Education: High school diploma or equivalent. Certificates: 48 college units, or an AA degree, or be able to demonstrate college level skills by passing the Para proficiency test. Clearances: Employment is contingent upon a Criminal Justice Fingerprint/Background Clearance, paid for by the applicant.
Essential Functions
Monitor the high school campus, parking lots, and facilities to promote safety, discourage proper behavior, and check for property damage.
Conduct general student supervision in non-classroom area to aid in maintaining safety and discipline.
Monitor selcected video surveilannance cameras to ensure safety.
Controll access to main entrances with emphasis on school safety.
Assist visitors with checking in and getting to proper location in school.
Maintains an organized and appealing physical learning environment for the purpose of promoting a stimulating educational experience conducive to learning.
Maintains written and electronic documents, files and records for the purpose of providing an up-to-date reference and audit trail for compliance.
Participates in various meetings as may be required (e.g. parent/teacher meetings, etc.) for the purpose of conveying and/or receiving information.
Performs various clerical and technological functions as needed (e.g. scheduling, copying, electronic mail, maintaining and coordinating use of laptop computers, etc.) for the purpose of providing necessary records/materials for students, parents or staff and outside agencies.
Prepares written materials (e.g. notes, memos, letters, newsletters, handouts, contact records, etc.) for the purpose of documenting activities, providing written reference and/or conveying information.
Responds to inquiries from callers and visitors for the purpose of providing information, emotional support, referrals and or direction.
Substitutes in classrooms on a temporary basis and be available to cover classrooms for meetings, note taking for hearing impaired in the absence of interpreter, emergencies, etc. for the purpose of enabling teachers to attend required meetings.
Delivering messages to students and staff as needed.
Assist in escorting students as needed.
Assists other personnel as may be required for the purpose of supporting them in the completion of their work activities.
Job Requirements: Minimum Qualifications Skills, Knowledge and Abilities SKILLS are required to perform multiple tasks with a potential need to upgrade skills in order to meet changing job conditions. Specific skill based competencies required to satisfactorily perform the functions of the job include: operating standard office equipment including using pertinent software applications (Excel, WORD, Internet, E-mail, Infinite Campus); preparing and maintaining accurate records; and adhering to safety practices. KNOWLEDGE is required to perform basic math; understand written procedures, write routine documents, and speak clearly; and analyze situations to define issues and draw conclusions. Specific Knowledge based competencies required to satisfactorily perform the functions of the job include: accounting/bookkeeping principles; age appropriate activities; business telephone etiquette; concepts of grammar and punctuation; and having access and be familiar with structural floor plan, storage areas, supply rooms, fire exits, elevators, etc. ABILITY is required to schedule activities, meetings, and/or events; gather, collate, and/or classify data; and use basic, job-related equipment. Flexibility is required to work with others in a wide variety of circumstances; work with data utilizing defined but different processes; and operate equipment using defined methods. Ability is also required to work with a diversity of individuals and/or groups; work with a variety of data; and utilize specific, job-related equipment. Problem solving is required to identify issues and create action plans. Problem solving with data may require independent interpretation; and problem solving with equipment is limited. Specific Ability based competencies required to satisfactorily perform the functions of the job include: maintaining a calm, manageable and spirited attitude under stressful situations; and ability to relate to special needs students with learning disabilities or high risk behavior.

Working Environment The usual and customary methods of performing the jobs functions require the following physical demands: some lifting, carrying, pushing, and/or pulling and significant fine finger dexterity. Generally the job requires 20% sitting, 60% walking, and 20% standing. The job is performed in a generally hazard free environment.
