Mckinney Trailer Rentals, a rapidly expanding semi-trailer rental and lease company with over 38,000 trailers, is searching for an experienced maintenance professional for the position of Service Manager. The primary responsibility of this position includes preparation of semi-trailers for customer delivery, preventative maintenance, emergency breakdowns, parts inventory, recording and maintaining documentation of work performed, overseeing facility maintenance, and handling shipping/receiving of equipment in yard.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
- Provides leadership and development to the team of shop and mobile technicians
- Meets daily with sales and operations personnel to discuss filling upcoming orders and demands for equipment.
- Plans, schedules, and distributes work to technicians.
- Uses repair orders to record all work performed and submits a list of equipment numbers completed each day.
- Writes estimates and purchase orders for repairs or modifications to trailers, tractors, equipment and containers.
- Ensures compliance with all federal, state, and local government and company standards for reliability and safety.
- Oversee shipping/receiving responsibilities, including inspecting, storing, and retrieving inventory.
- Drives and spots equipment in yard.
- Orders parts and reports all costs of equipment added to fleet.
- Ensures that inspectors track all client bill backs.
- Logs of hours spent on repairs.
- Responsible for the safe operation of shop and yard areas.
- Other duties may be assigned.
- Monitor branch parts usage and pricing and ensure correct parts are being used on equipment in accordance with Mckinney Repair Standards.
- Oversee Mckinney Repair Standards and ensure trailers are repaired consistently to these policies at all branches.
- Oversee a skill evaluation review of technicians that will be done annually by the Service Managers.
- Conduct service review meetings as required with large national accounts to review performance and to assist with process improvements.
- Help ensure compliance with established safety policies.
- Manage after-hours service /ERS program.
- Develop, manage and measure mentorship programs to assist with the development of apprentices.
- Must be able to travel to our customers' yards within the footprint of the branch to address any maintenance concerns as needed with our customers and Account Managers
- Must be able to travel to vendor shops within the branch footprint as needed to address any maintenance concerns as needed.
- Must review vendor/parts invoices for accuracy.
Inspection Duties:
- Must be able to operate a yard goat.
- Must be able to move trailers within the yard.
- Complete inspections consistently utilizing the equipment inspection check list.
- Climb into and on top of van trailers and flatbeds for inspection.
- Compare outbound inspection to inbound inspection, report customer bill back for damages.
- Maintain signs/tags/flags for out of service, sale and sold units.
- Operate Yard Goat to move trailers as needed.
- Other duties may be assigned.
Accounting Support Duties:
- Set up new Vendors, issue purchase orders, prepare invoices for payment.
- Setting up new customers in the MMS.
- Generate and process miscellaneous invoices for sales, repairs, and other needs.
- Accounts receivables, make customer aging calls and or send out demand letters.
- Process credit card payments and authorizations.
- Other duties may be assigned.
Administrative Support Duties:
- Manage all incoming and outgoing communications including phone calls, mail, e-mail, faxes, and overnight packages.
- Maintain office supplies and oversee office equipment.
- Maintain local licensing/registration paperwork/fleet vehicle licensing.
- Other duties may be assigned.
Rental Support Duties:
- Open, process, and close rental agreements on the computer and process related paperwork.
- Initiate the mailing of new account application packets to prospective customers, process new account applications.
- Plan, schedule, and dispatch drivers for pick-up and delivery.
- Complete sales orders for reserved equipment.
- Inquire with customers at check-in if equipment is returned damaged.
- Perform weekly yard check for rental and resale inventory and reconcile information.
- Receive customer service calls. Resolve and/or redirect customers; follows up on completion.
- Control and track inventory, assign equipment, maintain documents and records.
- Other duties may be assigned.
Basic Qualifications
- High School Diploma or general education degree (GED), or five years related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience in management and supervision.
- Have knowledge & expertise in fleet maintenance requirements.
- Knowledge of vehicle components specifically related to the trucking industry
- Ability to teach, coach, mentor and train
- Ability to communicate and corroborate with senior management, branch managers, technicians and suppliers, both verbal and written.
- Ability to handle fast paced, changing environment.
- Strong negotiation skills.
- Proficient in Word, Excel, Outlook, and databases
Physical Demands
While performing the duties of this job, the employee may be required to physically inspect trailers inside and out by climbing in and out of the trailer as well as underneath the trailer.
Work Environment
While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly exposed to working near moving technical parts, working in highly precarious places, toxic or caustic chemicals, and risk of electrical shock. The employee is frequently exposed to fumes or airborne particles. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate to loud.
WORK ENVIRONMENT
While performing the duties of this job, the employee is occasionally exposed to wet, humid conditions; working near moving mechanical parts; and outdoor weather conditions. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate.
