THE JOB

We are currently seeking a Dispatch Relief Specialist I to coordinate vessel and barge movements across inland waterways, ensuring safe, efficient, and customer-focused operations. This role will provide coverage for dispatch staff during vacations and sick leave. Additional responsibilities include regular communication with all vessels & customers to support around-the-clock operations, dispatching, crewing support, inventory, extensive data entry, order tracking, and general administrative tasks.

  • Develops and communicates barge movements based on customer needs and schedules to facilitate optimal customer service and tow  assignments in a safe and cost-effective manner.

  • Maintains regular communication with all vessels and customers on a regular schedule for around-the-clock operations.

  • Uses independent discretion and judgment when executing requests for barge movement under general supervision.

  • Responds to operational problems in a timely and efficient manner.

  • Assists in arranging travel for vessel crews to and from boarding destinations

  • Assists with implementing new software programs.

  • Responds to emergencies and communicates according to established procedures. May take part in Incident Command System (ICS)  functions as assigned.

  • Produces and completes customer billing information, reports, and other internal records and reviews for accuracy.

 

Flexibility in this role is essential - This position typically works Monday through Friday 7am - 4pm. However, this role is also expected to provide coverage to other dispatch positions that work a 4 day / 12 hour rotating schedule supporting both day shift (25%) and night shift (25%) in a 12-hour capacity. This department also works 24/7/365 fully onsite in Vancouver, WA including weekends and holidays.

THE PAY & BENEFITS

  • Hiring Range: $33.93- $42.41/hour (depending on experience and qualifications).

THE CATCH

  • High school diploma or equivalent. Bachelor’s degree preferred.
  • One to three years’ experience as a transportation dispatcher.  Experience with maritime transportation preferred.
  • Strong communication skills to collaborate across teams and resolve issues effectively.
  • Proficient in using radio and multi-line phone systems to coordinate with vessel crews.
  • Capable of writing reports and managing documentation related to dispatch and billing.
  • Skilled in Microsoft Office, especially database management.
  • Must qualify for and maintain a Transportation Worker Identification Credential (TWIC).
  • Flexible schedule required, including availability for nights, weekends, and holidays.
