Description
The Operations Manager is responsible for managing daily production and distribution operations to ensure quality, cost, delivery, and safety goals are consistently met. Reporting directly to the President/CEO, this role executes operational strategies, drives continuous improvement, and leads production teams to achieve excellence in manufacturing performance and customer satisfaction. The Operations Manager collaborates closely with Quality, Supply Chain, HR, Finance, and IT to ensure efficient operations and alignment with organizational goals.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following. Other duties may be assigned.
- Manage day-to-day manufacturing operations for custom products, supplies, and sub-assemblies.
- Translate company goals into actionable production objectives related to safety, quality, delivery, and cost.
- Lead, mentor, and develop supervisors, leads, and hourly employees to ensure productivity, engagement, and accountability.
- Ensure compliance with OSHA, state, federal, and company safety policies.
- Promote and model a culture of continuous improvement using Lean and Six Sigma principles.
- Maintain effective production scheduling to meet on-time delivery targets and customer expectations.
- Monitor daily performance metrics (efficiency, waste, rework, and downtime) and implement corrective actions when necessary.
- Collaborate with the Quality team to resolve product and process issues, reducing defects and rework.
- Partner with Supply Chain to optimize materials flow and inventory control.
- Support facilities and equipment maintenance programs to ensure operational reliability.
- Participate in value stream improvement projects and kaizen events.
- Provide regular performance updates and recommendations to the President/CEO.
- Uphold and enforce company policies, procedures, and performance standards consistently.
Requirements
EDUCATION AND/OR EXPERIENCE, KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES:
- Bachelor’s degree in Business, Operations, or Engineering preferred; equivalent experience accepted.
- Minimum 3–5 years of experience in manufacturing or operations management.
- Proven success leading production teams in a fast-paced environment.
- Strong understanding of Lean Manufacturing and Continuous Improvement principles.
- Excellent leadership, communication, and problem-solving skills.
- Demonstrated ability to plan, prioritize, and execute multiple tasks effectively.
- Experience with ERP systems and production scheduling tools.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office, particularly Excel.
