PURPOSE

The Administrator, Payroll is accountable to the Manager, Payroll for the consistent, timely and accurate processing and payment of payroll for all Morguard Corporate and subsidiary entities in accordance with established procedures and legislative requirements.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  1. Periodic Payroll Processing
    Calculates, inputs, processes, and reconciles (balances through control reports) all payroll changes and payments (including exceptions, temporary reductions, vacation pay for hourly/temporary employees and garnishments) in the payroll system, on a semi-monthly payroll cycle, in accordance with established payroll policies and procedures in order to ensure that employee pay, for all Morguard entities, is processed in an accurate and timely manner.
  2. Payroll Processing for Employee Transitions
    Calculates payments, processes and creates relevant documentation for all terminations and applicable leaves, including creation of Record of Employment, to ensure that legislative requirements for these employee transitions are met within established timelines.
  3. Regulatory Reporting
    Collects, organizes and distributes information required by the organization and various government and regulatory agencies on payroll activities, processes deductions and remittances in order to comply with organizational policies and legislative requirements in multiple jurisdictions and provinces.
  4. Year-end Processes
    Reconciles, balances and adjusts (where needed) payroll activities for an entire fiscal year, after year end, in order close off payroll accounts for the year, and to report on payroll activities for financial reporting, tax and other matters.
  5. Payroll Customer Services
    Responds to basic and moderately complex requests (information and documentation) from employees, managers, external auditors and government agencies in order to provide appropriate and accurate information for decision making and, where applicable, process assessment; may be required to assist with partial duties of payroll billings (remittances).
  6. Individual Earnings Documentation and Reporting
    Collects, organizes, reviews, adjusts (where needed), and distributes relevant personal tax information and documents (e.g. T4’s, T2200’s, etc.) as a part of year end activities or on as-needed basis within established timelines in order to meet legislative requirements.

Minimum Requirements

Skills, Knowledge, Experience and Education

  • College diploma in related field (e.g. Payroll Administration or Human Resources Administration) or equivalent
  • 2-3 years of payroll processing experience
  • PCP designation (Payroll Compliance Practitioner) is considered a strong asset for this role
  • Minimum of 2 years' experience with federal and provincial statutes concerning payroll remittances
  • Minimum of 1–2 years of hands-on experience in a Payroll Specialist (or equivalent) role is required
  • Experience with ADP Workforce Now (WFN) is considered a strong asset for this role.
  • Good computer skills (e.g. Microsoft Office, HRIS, Payroll Software).
