Characteristics of the Class:  Under general supervision, the individual in this class will be responsible for reducing violence, developing diversion projects and alternative activities for gang members and at risk youth.

Position Duties

Examples of Duties / Knowledge & Skills 

  • Develops and implements programs for positive diversion of  gang members and other at risk youth. 
  • Coordinates with other agencies and community based organizations, interventions designed to provide positive alternatives to gang involvement.
  • Assist community youth by identifying appropriate support resources and makes referrals.
  • Acts as a liaison with Housing Authority Police and other law enforcement agencies.
  • Organizes and coordinates youth sports, recreational and educational programs and other youth oriented events.
  • Prepares reports and correspondence.
  • Assists in developing corporate sponsorship for sports programs and other recreational based events and outings.
  • Organizes and coordinates youth leadership programs for at risk youth.
  • Performs other related duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications

Minimum Requirements: 
High school graduation or equivalent -AND- three (3) years of experience working with gangs - OR - any equivalent combination of training and experience.

Special Requirements: Must possess a valid California Class "C"  Driver's License.

EXAMINATION

Resumes may be included but may not be submitted in lieu of application content. Only the MOST QUALIFIED APPLICANTS will be invited to the testing process, which may include any combination of oral, written and/or performance examination.  Applicants must pass each phase of the testing process with a rate of 70% or higher to be placed on the "Certified List".  Generation of a Certified List does not mean that there are any vacant and available positions at this time. The Certified List will be available for not less than 12 consecutive calendar months.
 
THE EXAMINATION FOR THIS POSITION WILL OCCUR ON Tuesday, November 4. 2025.  If you are invited to the examination process, you will receive an email from a recruiter at the Housing Authority NO LATER THAN Tuesday, October 28, 2025. This will be your only notice. There will be no changes to the date(s) of the examination.

Candidates will start at STEP 1 of an eight step salary range unless there are special exceptions in accordance with the Personnel Rules.
