    Essential Function

    • An employee in this position will work under the direction of a foreman, journeyman, or supervisor as assigned.
    • Shall assist journeymen in the construction, maintenance, and repair of electrical transmission and distribution lines and equipment; be a qualified truck driver and able to safely and competently operate line digger/derrick equipment; assist journeymen in framing and setting poles, stringing conductors, loading and unloading materials and tools; pass line tools, material, and equipment from ground to workmen on a pole by means of a hand line; see that line vehicles and equipment used and assigned are kept in good repair, clean, and properly stocked; and do other related work as required.
    • Groundmen may be assigned to line crew and will assist journeymen as required to include service work.
    • Groundmen may be upgraded to head groundman and also be assigned to the electric shop and perform the duties of an Electric Shop Groundman, when required and if qualified as determined by supervision.

    Education

    • High school diploma or GED from accredited institution.

    Experience

    • Valid Washington State Class A Commercial Driver’s License (CDL) with required endorsements.
    • Valid first aid card including CPR training, equivalent to the State of Washington requirements for industrial first aid.
    • Current Flagger certification preferred.

    Other Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

    • Pass battery of written and/or oral tests to demonstrate minimum competency in mathematics, mechanical aptitude, and Washington State Electrical Workers Safety Rules and Regulations.
    • Knowledge and understanding of the Washington State Electrical Workers Safety Rules and Regulations.
    • Demonstrate aptitude and potential to become a journeyman.
    • Write legibly and be able to fill out forms.

    Physical Requirements

    • Must be mentally and physically fit for duty.
    • Able to perform activities at unprotected heights of less than 10 feet.
    • Able to work in high noise/vibration areas.
    • Work in confined spaces or areas that restrict movement.
    • Work in close proximity of rotating and high voltage equipment.
    • Able to work in extreme heat or cold, both inside and outside.
    • Able to reach above the shoulder level.
    • Able to differentiate colors and utilize senses (sight, hearing, touch, feel, and smell).
    • Able to ascend/descend stairs and ladders.
    • Able to lift 50 pounds.
    • Willing to work off of a ladder or scaffolding and in confined areas.
    • Use computers and write legibly.
