The Role
The Piping & Mechanical Designer will be responsible for design work supporting small facility-based projects in an active chemical manufacturing plant as part of that plant’s capital project’s group.

Responsibilities
Typical responsibilities
- Meet or exceed the company’s safety standards.
- Comply with all company procedures, engineering practices and other standards.
- Read and fully understand P&ID’s and other documents which describe the scope of work to be done.
- Provide piping & mechanical design support to capital and service projects in a fast-paced environment.
- Perform design and drafting of process systems such as pressure piping, valves, and tubing.
- Complete designs requiring considerable field design/drafting experience and the use of mathematical and computer skills to create functional and effective designs.
- Work from sketches and verbal information supplied by engineers, process area representatives, and others to prepare designs that meet the process needs and constructability requirements using independent judgment in selecting and interpreting data based on knowledge of the design intent and using required information from engineer’s drawings & sketches, manufacturer’s catalogues, technical guides, codes, standards, field survey notes, etc.
- Develop mechanical design packages with complete sets of mechanical drawings which focus on clearness, completeness accurate geometric dimensioning and tolerancing of the design, and drafting presentation.
- Work closely with plant engineers, contractors, and team members to achieve project success.
- Field as-built, measurement, and design as project requires.
- Assist with material take-offs and construction estimating.

Expected:
- 10+ years industrial experience working in the design field, preferably in that of the chemical manufacturing industry.
- Experience in design of piping & mechanical systems as currently used in chemical manufacturing facilities.
- Knowledge of industrial processes, fabrication and construction techniques, equipment, design philosophies, codes, industry standards, and practices.
- Experience using E3D, PDMS, or other 3D CAD systems.
- Outdoor design experience, able to wear required PPE and drive safely to jobsite for field measurement/as-built drawings.
- Experience working with laser scans as part of the design process a plus.
- Proficiency in Microsoft, Word, Excel and Outlook.
