Recruitment Range: $47,500 - $52,500 Annually
DESCRIPTION OF WORK:
The Boards & Commissions Librarian maintains a database of information on appointments to various boards, commissions, and committees. Provides general Library support as a nonpartisan employee to the members of the Legislature and legislative staff as well as limited services to other agencies and the public. Work is performed independently under the general guidance from the Legislative Librarian.
Examples of Duties:
Maintains a dedicated in-house database of boards and commissions data.
Tracks and files documentation relating to boards and commissions, which includes appointment letters, resignations, Session Laws, and General Statutes.
Works closely with staff in leadership offices (legislative, executive, state agencies, etc.) to maintain the integrity of the database by helping to edit appointment letters and to resolve inconsistencies with terms/appointments.
Works with legislative staff offices on committee information posted to the NCGA website.
Responds to requests for boards and commissions database information, which may include compiling spreadsheets and/or other reports under tight deadlines.
Maintains online repository of reports submitted to the General Assembly by state agencies.
Assists with collection management and copy cataloging.
Answers reference requests using standard legal and legislative reference sources, including in-house and remote databases. Staffs reference desk on a set schedule.
Performs other duties as directed.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES/COMPETENCIES:
Proficiency and ability to work with Excel and other Microsoft Office applications, and with database structures, software, and searching.
Strong analytical skills and the ability to use general research resources such as the internet.
Ability to perform data entry with accuracy and speed.
Ability to work independently and make logical decisions.
Flexibility to shift priorities and complete urgent requests.
Availability to work occasional evening hours when the General Assembly is in session.
Ability to work cooperatively and under pressure with legislators, legislative staff, and the public on a daily basis.
Willingness to suggest ideas to improve library services.
Knowledge of or interest in the legislative process.
Knowledge of cataloging procedures and software a plus.
Knowledge of Access and/or SQL a plus.
MINIMUM EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS:
Master’s degree plus two years of work experience, preferably in an academic, special, or law library.
