POSITION DESCRIPTION                                                       

The New Museum is pleased to announce an opening for the role of Security Supervisor. The responsibility of the Security Supervisor is to provide supervision and guidance to Museum Security Officers during day-to-day operations, and to maintain a safe environment for staff, visitors, artwork and museum property. The Security Supervisor responds to all emergencies and security incidents, taking appropriate action, and documenting. 

In addition to providing and facilitating an excellent guest experience, the ideal candidate will contribute to the museum’s commitment to creating an inclusive and welcoming environment for everyone.  

Position reports to the Director of Security. 

RESPONSIBILITIES INCLUDE BUT ARE NOT LIMITED TO:

SUPERVISORY

  • Supervision of all Security Officers, including routine patrols to ensure Officers are carrying out post orders in an acceptable manner and address any security concerns. 
  • Ensure all Security Officers are following policies and procedures as outlined in the Security Handbook. 
  • Manage scheduling and post assignments, including timely updates and documentation of changes made. 
  • Provide coverage for security posts and breaks as needed. 
  • Respond promptly to radio calls from security and other departments. 
  • Conduct opening and closing checks in accordance with established opening and closing procedures. 
  • Communicate and escalate issues in a timely manner to the appropriate personnel. 
  • Oversee the security needs of events and programs during public and non-public hours.
  • Supervision of life safety and security equipment which includes the CCTV and Access Control system, elevator controls and Fire Control Panel.
  • Train newly hired security officers. 
  • Frequent collaboration with other Security Supervisors to carry out the day-to-day operations of the security department. 

EMERGENCIES 

  • Familiar with all security, life safety and critical building systems. 
  • Responds to all emergencies and takes appropriate action as outlined in the Security Handbook.
  • Serve as a point of contact for responding emergency services. 
  • Thorough knowledge of emergency evacuation and reentry process. 
  • Ability to clearly communicate with the Security and Facilities Director about all emergencies. 

INCIDENT REPORTING

  • Promptly report all incidents, infractions, and security concerns to the Director of Security. 
  • Investigate and take corrective action on all incidents that put the safety and security of the museum and its occupants at risk. 
  • Complete and submit incident reports.  

QUALIFICATIONS

  • The ideal candidate should possess 3-5 years of supervisory experience in a security, customer service and or museum-related field. 
  • Possess valid NYS Security Guard license. 
  • Current Fire Life Safety Director Certification (F-89/T-89) preferred. 
  • Current FDNY F-03 and S-95 licenses, CPR, and First Aid certification. 
  • Must have prior experience and be familiar with the operation of the Fire Control Panel and emergency evacuation procedures. 
  • Associate degree or higher preferred. Candidates with a high school diploma will be considered. 
  • Ability to effectively communicate with staff and museum visitors in a courteous manner.
  • Proficient with use of a computer and its applications including Microsoft Outlook, Excel, and Word. 
  • Must be able to follow instructions, work well independently and as part of the team. 
  • Must be able to sit, stand and walk for extended periods of time. 
  • Must be able to work weekends and after-hour events, as per the museum’s needs.
