PURPOSE OF JOB
The Design Services Operator is responsible for executing technical tasks that support the design, documentation, fabrication, and assembly of medical devices. Working closely with design engineers and technicians, this role supports rapid prototyping and low-volume production activities by ensuring parts are manufactured accurately, efficiently, and in compliance with company and regulatory standards.
This hands-on role is ideal for individuals with experience in machining, 3D printing, or precision fabrication within a quality-focused environment.
JOB OPERATION/ELEMENTS
Essential Job Duties:
- Set up and operate equipment such as laser cutters, 3D printers, OD and ECG grinding machines, injection molding presses, and other fabrication tools to support design and prototyping activities
- Interpret technical drawings, CAD models, and work instructions to produce accurate parts and assemblies
- Inspect and document components using measurement tools (e.g., calipers, micrometers, pin gauges, comparators, etc.) to ensure they meet design specifications.
- Document inspection results and communicate nonconformities or deviations to engineers or quality teams. Participate in identifying and carrying out corrective actions.
- Participate in continuous improvement efforts and help optimize workflow efficiency in the design services lab.
- Perform and document testing on components or devices to ensure they meet all manufacturing requirements.
- Provide DFM (design for manufacturability) feedback on part manufacturability and potential design improvements based on fabrication experience.
- Follow all safety protocols, including use of PPE, machine lockout/tagout, and handling of hazardous materials (if applicable).
- Comply with cleanroom or controlled environment procedures when required for component fabrication and assembly.
- Ensure that all fabrication processes align with company quality systems and applicable regulatory requirements.
- Report equipment malfunctions, perform basic troubleshooting.
REQUIREMENTS
EDUCATION:
- Requires a high school diploma or GED or equivalent experience.
EXPERIENCE:
- 3-5 years’ experience, preferable in an industrial manufacturing environment.
- Must be versed in a variety of industrial and mechanical concepts practices and procedures.
- Working knowledge of quality system requirements.
- Process qualification validation knowledge and experience preferred.
- Basic computer skills in Excel, Word, and Outlook preferred.
- Experience working in a production facility preferred.
- Good communication skills
- Clean room environment experience is a plus.
