JOB SUMMARY:

The Cost Analyst is responsible for all activities relating to collecting, reviewing and analyzing operational cost data to provide actionable insights into costs of business activities such as raw material purchases, inventory, supplies, labor and SG&A expenses. The role also includes preparing cost reports, analyzing changes in operations that affect cost structures, and developing customer pricing for management review and approval.

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Analyze manufacturing costs and prepare regular reports comparing standard costs to actual production costs.
  • Develop and maintain cost accounting systems and cost standards – including raw material, labor and supplies.
  • Monitor inventory transactions and related internal controls to ensure proper accounting procedures are followed.
  • Conduct physical inventories and monitor the cycle count program.
  • Assist with resolving variances of cycle counts through auditing bills of materials, recipes and manufacturing lines.
  • Collaborate with Sales management to develop and manage customer pricing models.
  • Assist in month-end and year-end closing processes.
  • Analyze cost variances and provide recommendations for cost improvements.
  • Review and analyze inventory valuation, cost of goods sold, and gross margins.
  • Prepare cost forecasts and budget analysis to support management decision-making.
  • Work with operations and supply chain teams to develop product costing models.
  • Ensure compliance with internal controls and relevant accounting standards.
  • Support audits and provide documentation as needed.

QUALIFYING SKILLS REQUIREMENT:

  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting or Finance and 3-5 years of experience, knowledge and skills in the field.  
    • Must have excellent communication skills both oral and written to convey information or ideas effectively and the ability demonstrate active listening skills.
    • Must demonstrate critical thinking skills using logic and reasoning skills to identify the challenges and opportunities of alternative options.  Analyzing information and evaluating options and implement the best solution.
    • Must demonstrate excellent monitoring and assessment skills to make improvements or take corrective action for the organization.
    • Must have excellent interpersonal relationship skills to be able to develop constructive and collaborative working relationships across the business as well as be able to exercise influence.  Must also be able to deal calmly and effectively with high stress situations.
    • Must have excellent knowledge and skills in computers Excel, Outlook, Internet browsing and practical application of mathematics to solve problems.  Must also have knowledge Accounting or Financial software (Sage 100, Acumatica), business intelligence and data analysis software (SQL, Power BI).
