Primary purpose: The Staff Accountant is directly responsible for various aspects of closing the accounting books and billing, in accordance with GAAP and FERC, monthly for the crude segment. This role supports the Accounting Manager.

Responsibilities

Essential duties and responsibilities:

  • Prepare adjusting close journal entries, including but not limited to: Revenue Accruals, Expense Accruals, Deferred Revenue.
  • Analyze balance sheets and income statements monthly for accuracy.
  • Responsible for certain monthly invoicing processes.
  • Prepare balance sheet account reconciliations and maintain supporting schedules.
  • Support internal and external auditors by preparing data requests as needed.
  • Assist Accounting Manager with the completion of the annual audit and quarterly audit reviews.
  • Prepare state and federal reporting filed with Federal Energy Regulatory Commission (FERC) quarterly and annually.
  • Maintain knowledge of relevant Accounting Standards.
  • Assure adherence to applicable customer and supplier contract terms.
  • Interact with a wide variety of internal and external stakeholders with tact, courtesy, and professionalism.
  • Maintain a regular, dependable attendance and a consistently high level of performance.
  • Will work non-traditional hours as needed.
  • Maintain a high regard for personal safety, for the safety of company assets and employees, and the public.

Qualifications

Minimum requirements:

 

Education:

  • Bachelor’s degree from an accredited institution in Finance, Accounting, or a related discipline. 

 

Experience/Specific Knowledge:

  • A minimum of two (2) years of experience actively involved in a relevant and related role.
  • Must have a fundamental understanding of accounting and financial principles.
  • Intermediate level in MS Office applications that may include but are not limited to Excel, Word, Access, PowerPoint and Outlook.

 

Certifications, Licenses & Registrations:

  • Must possess and maintain a valid driver’s license and a driving record satisfactory to the company and its insurers (for travel).

 

Competencies, Skills & Abilities:

  • An intermediate understanding of Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP).
  • Ability and desire to develop advanced skills and processes.  
  • Attention to detail is critical.
  • Must be dependable with a stable work history.
  • Consistent ability to meet deadlines.
  • Strong organizational skills are critical.
  • Ability to work a flexible schedule, including evenings, weekends and/or holidays as needed.

Working Conditions:

  • Required to carry a cell phone and be available to respond during working and non-working hours.
  • The successful candidate will be required to clear a drug screen and a complete background check, including credit report for certain positions, after an offer has been extended and prior to being employed.

 

Supervisory Responsibility:

  • None
PREFERRED EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE, CERTIFICATIONS, COMPETENCIES, SKILLS, & ABILITIES: Above the minimum requirements; not required but advantageous in this position:
  • One (1) to three (3) years of previous accounting experience.
  • Advanced level in Microsoft Excel.
  • Familiarity and experience with Oracle and/or Synthesis software.
  • Previous experience with SOX controls and processes.
  • Fundamental comprehension of monthly financial statements (balance sheet, income statement).
  • Prior oil and gas experience.
