EVA Development SE&I Engineer

Location: NASA Johnson Space Center | Avionic Systems Division
Status: Full Time

Clearance: Background check & U.S. Citizenship required

 

Astrion is seeking an EVA Development Systems Engineering & Integration (SE&I) Engineer to join our team in support of NASA’s pursuit of deep space exploration. In this role, you will evaluate, integrate, and guide engineering across multiple NASA commercial partners to ensure successful extravehicular activity (EVA) systems for both the International Space Station and lunar missions.

 

Basic Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Engineering (or related field).
  • Typically 5–10 years of relevant experience in systems, project, or design engineering or mission operations.
  • Strong knowledge of extravehicular activity systems and space suits, including lessons from past EVA programs.
  • Demonstrated ability to understand and evaluate complex systems such as those in Artemis missions.
  • Excellent communication skills, with experience presenting to NASA boards and working with vendor teams.
  • Proven ability to review technical documentation and provide actionable feedback.

 

Preferred Qualifications

  • 5+ years of human spaceflight experience, including at least 2 years working directly with EVA equipment, systems, and/or suits.
  • Ability to work independently, prioritize tasks, and build strong relation
  • Lunar Terrain Vehicle, PR systems, tools, and scientific instruments
  • Collaborate with NASA programs, control boards, suit vendors, and vehicle providers.
  • Contribute expertise in EVA suits and systems, leveraging lessons learned from historical missions to strengthen Artemis-era designs.
  • Perform other duties as required to support EVA development and integration.ships across NASA, suit vendors, and vehicle providers.

 

What you’ll do

  • Provide SE&I evaluations of partner documentation and discussions to ensure technical requirements are met for all crewmember interfaces with ISS, lunar EVA systems, and any interfacing vehicles or payloads.
  • Review and analyze ConOps, IRDs, DRDs, IDDs, ICDs, GR&As, plans, reports, specs, V&V, model outputs, and analyses.
  • Support integration across key EVA interfaces, such as:
    • Gateway Airlock Module and exterior systems
    • ISS Airlock & exterior
    • Human Landing Systems (SpaceX & Blue Origin)
