Job Description
The Environmental Specialist is part of the EHS Center of Excellence and reports to the Decatur Complex Environmental Manager. The Environmental Specialist will directly support the West Complex located in Decatur, IL, which is comprised of an Oilseeds processing facility, vegetable oil refinery and phytosterol production facility.
Main Responsibilities:
Monitor activities at each designated site in the West Complex and implement actions to ensure compliance with all ADM, federal, state, and local government requirements and environmental regulations.
Develop and provide training for employees and contractors related to environmental programs.
Assist with the preparation of required reports and maintain all necessary records/documentation related to environmental programs for the facility.
Participate in and lead, where appropriate, all internal and external environmental audits or environmental agency visits and prioritize, assign, and track the audit findings for completion.
Assist the Decatur Air and Waste Subject Matter Experts with information gathering for permitting, reporting, etc.
Communicate with regulatory agencies in writing, by phone, or in person as required for issues such as resolving permit compliance, etc.
Travel on occasion for meetings, training, etc.
Maintain and manage the site’s EMS including, but not limited to policy, standardization, procedure development, incident investigations – root cause analyses, risk reduction efforts, inspections, audits , and training.

Additional Qualifications:
BS/BA degree in Engineering, Environmental Management, or other related program preferred.
5+ years’ experience with progressive responsibility preferably in a process industrial environment.
Strong knowledge of environmental regulations and management systems, including air and water regulations and permitting.
Strong leadership skills with the ability to impact and influence others at all levels in the organization.
Effective verbal and written communication skills, including the ability to organize and lead meetings.
Proven ability to work within a team-based work environment.
Proven ability to assess risk and exercise sound judgment in making decisions.
Willingness to work flexible hours, occasionally other than normal business (day shift) hours to accommodate plant needs; i.e. training, inspections, etc. The Environmental Specialist may be contacted for after-hour emergencies.
Proficient in the use of software such as Microsoft Outlook, Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and SharePoint.
Must communicate effectively with engineering and operations technical staff, legal counsel, and regulatory agency personnel.
This position requires the ability to work in a variety of conditions such as an office environment, indoors/outdoors, and hot/cold weather as well as physical demands such as standing, kneeling, and sitting for prolonged periods, climbing stairs/ladders and the ability to work in confined spaces in a variety of environmental conditions.
ADM requires the successful completion of a background check.
Base pay offered may vary depending on multiple individualized factors, including market location, job-related knowledge, skills, and experience. Hourly and salaried non-exempt employees will also be paid overtime pay when working qualifying overtime hours.
If hired, employees will be in an “at-will position” and the Company reserves the right to modify base pay (as well as any other discretionary payment or compensation program) at any time, including for reasons related to individual performance, Company or individual department/team performance, and market factors.
The pay range for this position is expected to be between:
$70,400.00 - $131,300.00
Salaried Incentive Plan
The total compensation package for this position will also include annual bonus
