Wood is recruiting a Journeyperson Insulator - Offshore Adhoc (Casual /Temporary) to join its Operations team focusing on the oil and gas petrochemical industry. This opportunity is offshore Newfoundland and Labrador, working on an as needed, call-out basis.

 

The Role

Location: Offshore Newfoundland and Labrador

Site / Office based: Hibernia 

Hours of work: 12 hours per day

Rotation / work pattern: Call out, as needed

Required: Site-specific medical, drug and alcohol testing

Unionized position: Rates follow the Collective Bargaining Agreement

 

Within this role, by using power tools and hand tools, candidates will be expected to apply, remove, and repair, thermal and acoustic insulation such as glass foam, mineral wool, and Aerogel, on all types of industrial equipment (e.g. ducting, piping, heat exchangers, tanks, vessels). They will also plan and execute Insulation activities in accordance with drawings and specifications. While working in confined spaces and/or at heights, in outdoor and extreme temperatures and weather conditions.

Responsibilities

  • Follow all company and site-specific safety rules. Always Working within the Company’s Safety Program. Maintaining behavior-based safety essentials and adherence to the Life Saving Rules. Understand and respond accordingly to all safety alerts, warnings, hazards, etc. 
  • Read and understand written work instructions, Read and interpret drawings and specifications to determine insulation requirements
  • Use effective verbal and written communication skills. Able to adequately comprehend and communicate using the English Language
  • Listen and communicate effectively and respectfully. Work as a part of a team, under the direction of supervisor(s) to maintain motivation to work safely and productively
  • Work within precise limits or standards of accuracy, understanding and following specifications and drawings. Apply mathematics and geometry to solve problems
  • Plan work and select proper tools, equipment and machinery. Estimating and selecting materials required to complete a job or task. Planning sequences and methods of work
  • Select the amount and type of insulation to be installed as well as a method of securing the insulation (e.g. spraying, strapping, taping) ensuring the work is fit for purpose and meets customer specifications
  • Measure, cut and fit insulating material and coverings to the required shape and dimension
  • Install vapor barriers and finish insulated surfaces by applying metal cladding
  • Install cladding, jacketing and finishes on insulated mechanical ducting
  • Prepares materials and surfaces for insulation scope
  • Coordinates and cooperates with other trades in the area 
  • Perform other duties as required

Qualifications

  • Journeyperson Trade Certification is required
  • Must pass a site-specific drug and alcohol test, as required by the customer
  • Must be able to safely lift and carry up to 50lbs
  • Must possess enough strength and stamina to perform the technical duties and essential functions as identified above
  • Able to move and work in confined spaces, following proper protocol 
  • Will be required consistently to work 12hour shifts performing physical labor in varying temperature extremes and conditions. 
  • Must be able to climb and maintain balance on stairs, ladders, scaffolds and steel framework, utilizing proper fall arrest procedures when required. Able to safely and comfortably work at heights without posing a danger to oneself or others 
  • Able to meet physical requirements of frequent walking, climbing, standing, bending, twisting and crawling for the duration of the shift

For this position, the following training / certifications would be considered and asset:

  • Basic Survival Training (BST) including HUET and HUEBA
  • Hydrogen Sulphide (H2S) Alive
  • Workplace Hazardous Materials Information System (WHMIS 2015)
  • Offshore Safety Regulatory Awareness
  • Fall Protection
  • Confined Space Entry
  • Emergency First Aid
