Equinox VGM is currently inviting applications for a Process Plant Manager to join our growing team as the company transitions from mine construction to mine operations.

Position Summary

Reporting to the General Manager, the Process Plant Manager is responsible for managing the gold process plant and tailing management facility. The Process Plant Manager will lead all operations and technical activities within the process plant, comprising the Metallurgy, Laboratory and Operations groups. The incumbent develops the structure for the process area and drives accountability to meet or exceed expectations in health, safety, environment, and production while working collaboratively with department heads to develop and execute on safe production plans. 

Accountabilities/Responsibilities:

Governance:

  • Develop and maintain ongoing internal and external collaborative relationships with all stakeholders.
  • Implement and support policies, procedures and legislative requirements and monitor compliance.


Health, Safety and Environment:

  • Promote a culture where health, safety and environment are always the highest priority.
  • Promote the completion and tracking of proper safety training for employees and ensure the tools are in place for employees to complete their work safety and legislative requirements are met.
  • Ensure security measures, systems and requirements are implemented and monitored to protect the people and assets.


Operation:

  • Responsible for the successful management of  production priorities within the gold Process Plant.
  • Responsible to develop and manage the departmental budget for the process plant by identifying efficiencies and improving processes by monitoring economic conditions and opportunities as well as tracking and acting on cost reductions which are not detrimental to the long-term business performance.
  • Providing leadership to the Process Plant operations team, managing performance, identifying troubleshooting deficiencies and making the right correction assessments for the team.
  • Direct the processing department to ensure cost effective operations of the plant.
  • Maintain records for effective scheduling.
  • Forecasting for business planning and cost management.
  • Develop and communicate long term operational objectives and establish metrics to track and manage performance.
  • Participate in goal and objective setting with department heads to ensure the efficient and profitable operation of the company.
  • Support and participate in continuous improvement initiatives. Responsible for the organization and direction of all process plant activities that establishes high level of production in a cost effective, safe, and environmental manner.


Budgets and Resource Management:

  • Responsible to develop and manage the departmental budget for the plant by identifying efficiencies and improving processes by identifying opportunities as well as tracking and acting on cost reductions which are not detrimental to the long-term business performance.
  • Ensure the appropriate allocation of operating and capital costs to achieve business plans through the annual budget process and monthly review of costs and budget variances.
  • Review and provide directions on future equipment and labour requirements.


Leadership Development:

  • Establish and support a culture of integrity, accountability, excellence and teamwork.
  • Establish clear performance expectations and key performance indicators for members of the site leadership team.
  • Ensure the career and succession plan is promoted and supported by providing training and development programs for talent at all levels.
  • Assess performance on an on-going basis through employee performance management processes and ensure training needs are identified.
  • Encourage interdepartmental collaboration and establish a strong culture of continuous improvement across the operation.

 

Perform other duties as assigned. 

Education and Experience Required:

  • Bachelor of Engineering – Chemical, Mineral Processing or Metallurgy or a related field and experience is required.
  • 10-15 years related work experience, with a minimum of 10 years managing teams.
  • P.Eng or eligibility to obtain is an asset.
  • Experience in project management.
  • Experience working with and managing employees in a remote/rotational environment.
  • Continuing education in the areas of processing methods.
  • A valid driver’s license and driver’s abstract required.

Skills and Knowledge:

  • Knowledge and understanding of NL health, safety and environmental acts and legislation relating to mining operations.
  • A proven leader who has a track record of building a culture of safety, inclusion, and operational excellence.
  • Experienced working in a capital project environment, including working with a strong project and operational readiness team.
  • Demonstrated ability to effectively mentor and develop teams to support career growth.
  • Ability to collaborate with others across the organization and build strong relationships.
  • Organized and detail oriented.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills is essential in presenting, communicating, and interacting with stakeholders and at all levels of management.
  • Strong interpersonal skills and ability to work in a collaborative environment.
  • Proven analytical skills that can quickly assess and resolve complex issues.
  • Advanced knowledge of Excel spreadsheets and experience in using advance consolidation and reporting tools, ex. SAP, and Power Point presentations.
