POSITION OVERVIEW: New London Public Schools is seeking a dedicated, culturally responsive Grade 1 Teacher to join our STEM-focused Magnet Pathway School. The ideal candidate will foster curiosity, inquiry-based learning, and cross-disciplinary connections in young learners. This teacher will create an inclusive and engaging classroom that supports academic growth and nurtures a passion for science, technology, engineering, and mathematics.
TYPICAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
Plan and deliver standards-based, developmentally appropriate instruction across all core subjects (ELA, math, science, social studies) within the framework of a STEM-focused magnet pathway curriculum.
Integrate STEM concepts, real-world problem solving, and cross-curricular connections into daily lessons to promote critical thinking and innovation.
Use inquiry-based and student-centered instructional strategies to encourage exploration, collaboration, and creativity.
Foster a respectful, inclusive classroom culture where diversity is valued and celebrated.
Collaborate with colleagues to align instruction with the school’s STEM magnet pathway goals and grade-level expectations.
Assess student progress using a variety of formative and summative methods; differentiate instruction to meet diverse learning needs.
Engage families and the school community to support student learning and STEM awareness.
Participate in ongoing professional development related to STEM education and best practices in primary years pedagogy.
Use technology and hands-on learning to enhance instruction and connect students to real-world STEM applications.
Maintain accurate records, meet deadlines, and uphold school and district policies.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
Valid state teaching certification
Bachelor’s degree in Elementary Education or a related field (Master’s preferred).
Strong classroom management, communication, and collaboration skills.
Demonstrated experience or interest in STEM education, problem-based learning, or interdisciplinary curriculum design.
Proven ability to teach diverse learners using culturally responsive practices

Ability to adapt to various learning styles and needs of young learners.
Passion for fostering innovation, creativity, and critical thinking.
SALARY: based on experience and NLEA contract.
