Position Summary

The Continuous Quality Improvement (CQI) Manager is responsible for leading and overseeing quality improvement initiatives across the Clinical and Translational Science Center (CTSC) to enhance operational efficiency, program effectiveness, and service delivery. This role involves designing, implementing, and evaluating quality improvement strategies, as well as ensuring alignment with organizational goals, regulatory standards, and best practices. The CQI Manager collaborates with cross-functional teams to identify areas for improvement, collects and analyzes performance data, and facilitates continuous learning and innovation. The ideal candidate possesses strong analytical, communication, and leadership skills, with a demonstrated ability to drive measurable outcomes in complex environments.

Job Responsibilities

  • Evaluate and implement both operational and programmatic quality improvement initiatives within the CTSC. Utilize data analysis, root cause analysis, and other techniques to identify gaps, risks, and opportunities for improvement.
  • Develop and execute quality improvement plans and projects by setting clear goals, identifying effective strategies, and allocating resources appropriately.
  • Monitor the effectiveness of the implemented changes, measure performance, and adjust as needed.
  • Coordinate and oversee all aspects of quality assurance data to ensure compliance with federal, state, and agency regulations.
  • Act as a liaison to the CTSA network to share best practices, collaborate with other hubs, and track metrics related to adoption and utilization.
  • Prepare reports, presentations, and other materials to communicate findings, recommendations, and progress to CTSC leadership.
  • Collaborate with various Core Directors and teams to ensure that quality improvement initiatives are implemented effectively and sustained over time.
  • Communicate findings, recommendations, and progress to stakeholders, including Program Principal Investigators, Core Directors, and administrative staff.
  • Provide training and education to investigators and staff on quality improvement principles, tools, and processes.
  • Supervise the work of the Quality Assurance/Quality Control (QA/QC) team to ensure the timely submission of prior approval documents to the National Center for Advancing Translational Sciences (NCATS) and the eRA Human Subjects System.
  • Develop standard operating procedures (SOPs) for the CTSC in collaboration with Core Directors.

Education

  • Bachelor's degree and five years of relevant experience, or a combination of education and relevant experience.
  • Master's Degree preferred

Experience

Minimum of 5 years of biomedical research experience, including experience with federal grants.

Experience working with clinical investigators, internal/external IRBs, contracts, data standards and exchange, informatics/IT, data analytics, communications, including social media, recruitment and retention, and project management preferred.

Experience with PeopleSoft Business Intelligence preferred.

Familiarity with quality improvement frameworks such as PDSA (Plan-Do-Study-Act), Lean, Six Sigma, and other relevant methodologies.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills are essential for identifying and addressing issues.
  • Proficiency in data collection, analysis, and interpretation using statistical methods.
  • Ability to plan, organize, and manage quality improvement projects.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills to effectively convey information to various audiences.
  • Ability to work collaboratively with diverse teams and stakeholders.
  • Proficiency in relevant software, such as data analysis tools, project management software, and reporting applications.
  • Excellent organizational skills and management style.
  • Advanced skills with Microsoft Office suite, especially Excel.
  • Strong verbal/written communication skills required to interact successfully with professional groups and committees.
  • Proven ability to work in a fast-paced environment and manage several projects simultaneously, be a motivated self-starter, and be adept at handling confidential information.
