EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE 
Bachelor’s degree in Business Administration, Business Management, Communications or related field is required and four years of experience working in a communications environment such as a Dispatch Center or Internal Communications Coordinator, a Call Taking, or Call Center. Extensive knowledge of the IOC (Integrated Operations Center) in addition to a clear understanding of Rail and Bus Control operation is required.  Knowledge of transit system scheduling and services pertaining to all modes, and overall transportation services, and Rail Standard Operation procedures required.  Successful completion of internal transportation related and/or supervisory training desired.  Excellent verbal and written communications, analytical, and problem-solving skills are required.  Knowledge of track allocation procedures, coordination during special events, and development of operation plans desired.  Directly related work experience may be substituted in lieu of educational requirement. 

INTERVIEW SELECTION PROCESS: The selection process may include one or more components to demonstrate applicants’ knowledge, skills and abilities in job related areas. These may include exercises such as practical demonstrations, written communications, oral interviews and/or competency assessments.

SUMMARY 

Directly supervises and coordinates activities of the Communications Coordinator team of the IOC (Integrated Operations Center).  Plans, monitors, evaluates and develops employee performance to maximize employee potential and maintain a high-performance environment.  Coordinates internal and external communication using computer system for display on various electronic signs (Signpost), VPAS/ATDAS, Train Talk, Automatic Calling, and others) and social media.  Develops and implements communications plans for the unit based on documented procedures and work details of the IOC.  Ensures daily activity supports unit work goals and are completed in an efficient and cost-effective manner within established policy and procedures.  Assists in the development and implementation of MARTA’s operating policy and procedures. Analyzes work problems, frequently providing direct technical assistance, and recommends solutions and/or disciplinary actions.  Manages communication between the IOC concerning Bus and Rail Operations, federal, state and local agencies and other MARTA Departments. Monitors weekly Track Allocation planning activities to update internal and external communications on all available media types.

 

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES 

  1. Assigns work to and supervises unit employees. Ensures day-to-day activities, in support of unit work goals, are completed in an efficient and cost-effective manner within established policies and procedures.

  2. Employee plans, monitors, evaluates and develops employee performance to maximize employee potential and maintains a high-performance environment. Coaches personnel on proper performance of work, frequently providing direct technical assistance. 

  3. Plans, monitors, evaluates and develops employee performance to maximize employee potential and maintain a high-performance environment.

  4. Develops and implements communications plans for the unit based on documented procedures and work details of the IOC. Assists in the development and implementation of MARTA’s operating policy and procedures.

  5. Manages communication between the IOC concerning Bus and Rail Operations, federal state and local agencies and other MARTA Departments. 

  6. Analyzes work problems, frequently providing direct technical assistance, and recommends solutions and/or disciplinary actions. 

  7. Monitors weekly Track Allocation planning activities to update internal and external communications on all available media types.

  8. Oversees the coordination of notification tasks to customers and internal MARTA management associated with establishing bus bridges in the event of an emergency, disabled train, or service disruption.

  9. Performs other related duties as assigned.

     

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES 
Directly supervises the staff of the Communications Coordinators of the IOC Unit. 

SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS 

An official investigation into applicant's background will be conducted including a criminal history records check. A physical examination, including drug/alcohol screen, will be required.
