General Description and Classification Standards Prepares incoming and outgoing mail for distribution. Supervision Received Works under direct supervision and follows standardized procedures and written instructions to accomplish assigned tasks. 

Essential Duties & Responsibilities These are typical responsibilities for this position and should not be construed as exclusive or all inclusive. May perform other duties as assigned. Prepares incoming and outgoing mail for distribution. Affixes postage to packages or letters by hand, or stamp materials using postage meter. Verify that items are addressed correctly, marked with appropriate postage and in suitable condition to process. Places incoming and outgoing letters or packages into bins based on destination and/or type. Clears jams in sorting equipment and sorts and routes incoming mail, collects outgoing mail, using carts as necessary. Weigh packages or letters to determine postage needed, using weighing scales and rate charts. Determine manner in which mail is sent and prepare it for delivery to mailing facilities. Lift and unload containers of mail or parcels onto equipment for transportation to sorting stations. Wrap bundles or packages by hand or by using tying machines. 

Decision Making Follows standardized procedures and written instructions to accomplish assigned tasks. Leadership Provided None required. 

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities This is a partial listing of necessary knowledge, skills, and abilities required to perform the job successfully. It is not an exhaustive list. Knowledge of city departments and locations Knowledge of basic postal regulations Basic computer skills for the operation of postage, weighing scales, rate charts etc. Ability to read and write. Ability to mail and determine the correct place to deliver. 

Minimum Qualifications Education and Experience High school diploma or General Equivalency Diploma (GED). None required. 

Preferred Education & Experience High school diploma or General Equivalency Diploma (GED). No prior experience required. 

Licensures and Certifications None required.

Work Schedule:
This position follows the City’s hybrid work schedule policy as assigned by the Department of Human Resources Commissioner and requires in-person work at City worksites/facilities at least four (4) days per week, with the option to work remotely one (1) day per week, based on eligibility, departmental needs, and supervisor approval. The hybrid work schedule is subject to change at any time to five (5) days in-person work.
