POSITION: Certified Nursing Assistant, District Wide
QUALIFICATIONS:
Certification in basic first aid and CPR; proficiency in keyboarding, file management, and modern technology platforms (Google Workspace, Microsoft Office, PowerSchool); strong organizational, communication, and interpersonal skills.
REPORTS TO: School Nurse/Principal/Director of Health Services
GENERAL SUMMARY:
Assist students with personal care needs and/or assist in special education classrooms as needed. Work under the immediate guidance and direction of a licensed registered nurse to maintain routine clinic records, provide minor first aid care, and conduct health screenings.
PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Assists students, school personnel, and parents in understanding and coping with a student’s disability or condition.
- Provide basic first aid and care for minor injuries and illness according to a detailed protocol established by the school nurse (RN) or medical advisor.
- Maintains current school health records and clinic logs. Updates student health information and ensures health records are maintained in a confidential manner.
- Assist with screening programs, take vital signs (temperature, pulse, respiration rate, and blood pressure), and accurately document results as proscribed by district, state, and federal requirements. Communicate findings to supervising school health staff for direction.
- Escort students to and from the health room and assist students with disabilities as necessary.
- Contact parents of students who need to be picked up from school according to established school health services protocols or as directed by the school nurse (RN).
- Knowledgeable of Universal Precautions Procedures when cleaning all body spills and providing wound care.
- Prepare, compile, maintain, and file all correspondence, reports, records, and other documents required, including accurate and confidential student health records.
- Comply with policies established by federal and state laws, South Carolina DHEC rules, State Board of Education rules, and board policy. Complies with all District Two and campus routines and regulations.
- Follows district and emergency procedures.
WORKING CONDITIONS:
The position is performed in a school healthroom, school classroom and/or office setting with no unusual exposure to environmental conditions. The role requires frequent interaction with students and staff in a fast-paced environment. Physical demands may include extended periods of standing, walking, or assisting students, as well as occasional lifting or moving of items and equipment up to 25 pounds. Duties also involve the use of standard office and healthroom equipment, including computers, medical supplies, and basic diagnostic tools.
