Position Title: Small Vehicle Driver Department: Transportation Reports To: Transportation Director
Job Summary
The Small Vehicle Driver safely transports students to and from school, activities, and special programs in district-owned vehicles smaller than a full-size bus. This position is responsible for operating the vehicle in accordance with all state, federal, and district regulations; maintaining student safety and appropriate conduct; performing pre- and post-trip inspections; and completing required reports. The driver serves as a positive representative of the district, ensuring courteous and professional interactions with students, parents, and staff.
Qualifications
Possess and maintain a valid Driver’s License.
Demonstrate a positive attitude, neat and clean appearance, and a pleasant, courteous demeanor.
Proven record of reliability, flexibility, and initiative in previous employment.
Ability to comply with all State, Federal, Colorado Department of Education, and School District transportation policies and regulations.
Ability and demeanor to supervise and ensure the safety of large groups of children or special-needs students while driving.
Knowledge of positive discipline and behavior management strategies preferred.
Strong verbal and interpersonal communication skills.
Ability to pass all required written tests and First Aid certification course.
Successful completion of an extensive background check.
Maintain a clean driving record.
Ability to pass CDOT physical examination, including drug and alcohol testing.
Job Description / Essential Duties
Safely operate an assigned school vehicle in accordance with District policies and all local, state, and federal laws.
Conduct and document daily pre- and post-route safety inspections on assigned vehicle.
Maintain appropriate student behavior to ensure the safety and welfare of all passengers.
Complete all required reports, logs, and paperwork accurately and on time.
Attend mandatory training sessions, meetings, and in-services as required by the District or state regulations.
Administer first aid as necessary, following District protocols.
Immediately report all accidents, incidents, or unsafe conditions to transportation management or appropriate authorities.
Promote a positive image of the Transportation Department and School District by maintaining professional relationships with students, parents, co-workers, and staff.
Hours
Split shifts: mornings and afternoons (hours vary based on route assignments).
