Position Overview The Coaching Practice Director provides strategic leadership and business development focus to drive CFAR's coaching practice toward growth targets while working in close partnership with the Coaching Practice Manager to ensure seamless operational delivery. This role balances external relationship building, strategic planning, and coach network cultivation with collaborative internal coordination.

Reporting & Collaboration
  • Reports to CFAR President/CEO
  • Supervises and works in daily partnership with Coaching Practice Manager
  • Collaborates regularly with CFAR Consultants on client development
  • Participates in firm leadership meetings and retreats

Key Responsibilities

Enhanced Business Development & Market Positioning (70-75%)
  • Drive practice growth through active business development
  • Proactively engage with CFAR consulting teams to identify and create coaching opportunities within existing and prospective engagements
  • Focus on building relationships with organizations where CFAR can become the go-to coaching provider for executive development
  • Develop strategic partnerships with organizations seeking comprehensive coaching programs for C-suite, succession planning, and multi-executive initiatives
  • Target CFAR's traditional market areas (healthcare, family businesses, higher education, associations, foundations, nonprofit organizations) while building coach expertise aligned with these practice areas
  • Identify and pursue new partnership opportunities (large multi-coach clients, professional services collaborations)
  • Conduct regular competitive analysis and refine positioning, pricing, and differentiation strategies
  • Build deep relationships with CFAR Senior Consulting team members and represent the coaching practice in firm leadership meetings and strategic planning
  • Further develop combined approach: Focus on better business impact and client stickiness through consulting/coaching integration
     
Coach Network Development & Strategic Support (20-25%)
  • Serve as primary relationship manager for coach network, maintaining regular contact with coaches
  • Build geographic diversity in coach network to support client needs
  • Recruit coaches with specialized expertise in CFAR's core practice areas (family and owner-led business, healthcare, higher education, nonprofit, etc.)
  • Interview and approve new coach additions in partnership with Coaching Practice Manager
  • Screen candidates for alignment with CFAR's values and approach (ICF certification preferred)
  • Provide thought partnership and support to coaches on complex engagements
  • Foster referrals and business development from within the coach network
  • Design agendas and participate in coach convenings and additional connection activities
  • Maintain overall network quality standards and ensure network excellence

Collaborative Practice Management (5-10%)
  • Partner closely with Coaching Practice Manager to ensure alignment of purpose 
  • Review and approve proposals for accuracy, pricing, and strategic alignment 
  • Provide input and guidance on complex coach matching decisions
  • Address coach or client issues requiring strategic perspective and guidance
  • Ensure practice management decisions align with growth and quality objectives
  • Collaborate with firm leadership to establish and track meaningful practice performance indicators

Required Qualifications

  • 10+ years of business development and/or practice management experience in professional services
  • Demonstrated success in growing a practice or business unit
  • Strong network in executive coaching, consulting, or related fields
  • Exceptional relationship-building and communication skills
  • Experience managing professional networks or contractor relationships
  • Track record of strategic thinking and execution
  • Demonstrated experience/credibility in executive coaching (ICF certification preferred)
  • Seeking external candidate with fresh perspective and established market relationships

Success Targets
  • Year 1: Sustain current minimum revenue while targeting significant growth
  • Billable days per month through direct coaching or lead coach role
  • Coach network development and strategic capability building
