Some evening and weekend hours; occasional travel required

A hybrid work schedule is available at this time and is subject to change based on the needs of the office. Flexible/hybrid work schedules will be reviewed as needed, throughout the course of employment.

 

Job Summary: Director of the Baldwin Wallace (BW) Choose Ohio First (COF) STEM Scholars Program will lead and evolve this inclusive, student-centered program to attract, retain, and graduate BW COF STEM Scholars; increase student engagement and success through effective program development and delivery through cross-campus collaborations; provide holistic success coaching to students that integrates student development theory; raise visibility of the program through targeted outreach; and develop resources (through grants, partnerships, collaborations, and affiliations) to support additional STEM initiatives at Baldwin Wallace University. In addition, this position will establish, develop, and manage relationships that focus on career readiness and create pathways to Ohio’s STEM workforce.

 

About Choose Ohio First: BW COF STEM Scholars receive holistic support, including a Choose Ohio First (COF) scholarship funded through the Ohio Department of Higher Education (ODHE). COF was launched by the State of Ohio in 2008 to increase the number of students completing STEM credentials. Baldwin Wallace University has received COF scholarship funding since 2008, and the BW COF STEM Scholars program has been recognized for its holistic student success model, innovative approach to transfer students from associate degree-granting institutions, and the successful recruitment, retention, and graduation of students from socially and economically disadvantaged backgrounds. Baldwin Wallace University currently manages six active COF awards, with over $5 million in state scholarship funding for undergraduate and graduate students across several STEM disciplines.

Baldwin Wallace Choose Ohio First STEM Scholars Program and associated initiatives:

  • Leadership, management, and oversight of the BW Choose Ohio First (COF) STEM Scholars Program 
  • Point of Contact to the BW COF team at the Ohio Department of Higher Education (ODHE)
  • Support the processes of obtaining additional STEM award initiatives with Principal Investigator(s) 
  • Recruit, orient, mentor, and success coach BW COF STEM Scholars through degree completion
  • Oversee success coaching activities and coach a caseload of STEM Scholars, maintaining accurate, thorough, and confidential records
  • Monitor students’ academic progress; oversee communication and development of success strategies with those who are not meeting program standards 
  • Serve as the primary liaison with the School of Science faculty; develop initiatives to increase faculty awareness, input, and collaboration 
  • Developing and executing an integrated calendar of STEM Scholars related academic and career events
  • Coordinate and contribute to all STEM Scholars marketing and communication efforts, including social media and website maintenance, as well as internal communications
  • Serve as a collaborative, engaged member of the BW COF STEM Scholars team 
  • Manages and approves the schedules for BW COF STEM Scholars staff, including student workers
  • Train and manage STEM Scholars graduate interns with a focus on their professional growth 
  • Manage and support the STEM Scholars peer mentoring program 
  • Serve as a liaison with internal and external stakeholders including, but not limited to, prospective students and families, alumni, faculty, employers, Admission, Financial Aid, Residence Life, Career Center, CASA (Center for Academic and Student Success), and the Office of Research and Sponsored Programs
  • Develops and strengthens partnerships between business communities, civic and philanthropic organizations, community institutions, and universities and community colleges for recruitment and talent pipeline development
  • Facilitate the coordination of STEM admission related events, outreach, and employer opportunities that align with the BW COF STEM Scholars and/ or School of Science and Engineering

 

Financial & Award Management

  • Collect, analyze, and report program data; maintain accurate records of STEM Scholars activities
  • Monitor the STEM Scholars operational budget and program expenses 
  • Ensure compliance with STEM Scholars award agreements (and similar related documents)  
  • Prepare all required reports (activity, narrative, and financial) and ensure timely submission 
  • Contribute to the funding proposals, concept papers, and accomplishment reports as requested

 

  

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree required; master's degree preferred 
  • Prior program management experience required; grant funded preferred 
  • Prior event planning experience required 
  • Previous experience coaching and/or mentoring students required 
  • Solid computer skills and experience in creating and maintaining data and databases, as well as experience with the Microsoft Office suite, Canvas, Qualtrics (or other survey tools), social media, and videoconferencing platforms 
  • Must hold a valid driver’s license and be willing to complete university van training 
  • Successfully complete a university background check 

 

Working Conditions and Physical Requirements: Work is normally performed in a typical interior/office work environment. Limited physical effort required. There is very limited exposure to physical risk. Limited travel may be required.
