As a Stevedore, you will be assisting in the loading and unloading of cargo being handled at the DP World Melbourne Terminal. Your key duties will include:
- Manual duties (Lashing) which involves the use of heavy rigging equipment to secure shipping containers to the deck of a ship.
- Operation of heavy machinery (Straddle carrier) to transport shipping containers around the Terminal.
These are initially casual positions, with the opportunity to move to permanent in future.
As a Stevedore with DP World Melbourne, you will receive generous remuneration including shift premiums and overtime.
Our business is in operation 24/7 and you will perform shift work - 8 hour day, evening and night shifts, across 7 days a week. Work is irregular based on ship arrival patterns and you will be notified of your shifts 1 day in advance by calling an automated phone system or checking online.
Comprehensive training is provided, so previous stevedoring experience is not required.
Skills and experience
We are looking for people with the following:
- Experience with physical work or labouring, and physically capable to undertake heavy manual tasks
- A current and valid full Driver's licence (manual desirable)
- A current and valid Forklift licence (or willing to obtain prior to commencement)
- Experience with shift work across 24 hours, 7 days per week
- Experience operating heavy machinery
- Experience in heavy industry such as warehousing, transport and logistics, construction, mining, or manufacturing
You must be:
- Able to work flexible and irregular hours including nights and weekends at short notice
- Able to work at heights
