Job Summary:
Ensures the health, safety, and security of both team members and members across all clubs. This role drives proactive risk management, compliance with regulatory and franchisor requirements, and fosters a culture of safety within the organization. Partners closely with Operations, Facilities, and HR to ensure safe environments, minimize liability, and protect the brand’s reputation across all locations.
Essential Job Functions:
- Conducts routine safety audits of all clubs to ensure compliance with OSHA, ADA, local/state regulations, and franchisor safety standards.
- Monitors incident reports (member injuries, employee accidents, equipment failures) and performs root-cause analysis.
- Tracks and trends safety and liability claims across all clubs to identify patterns and recommend corrective actions.
- Ensures all fitness equipment is properly inspected, maintained, and documented for safety compliance.
- Develops and enforces emergency response plans for incidents such as medical emergencies, severe weather, or active threat scenarios.
- Partners with training team and operations leader to design and deliver safety training modules for team members such as OSHA basics, accident reporting, safe equipment use, and facility hazard identification.
- Coaches leaders (GMs, SGMs, Area Directors) on consistent application of safety and risk policies.
- Promotes a culture of safety awareness by recognizing safe behaviors and reinforcing best practices.
- Maintains centralized records of all safety incidents, workers’ compensation claims, insurance claims, and member injury reports.
- Prepares regular safety/risk dashboards for senior leadership highlighting trends, club performance, and improvement plans.
- Supports insurance renewal processes by providing risk data and demonstrating safety initiatives that reduce liability.
- Implements and manages driver safety programs for all team members operating company vehicles; ensures compliance with defensive driving standards, licensing requirements, and MVR (Motor Vehicle Record) checks.
- Investigates all motor vehicle accidents/incidents, coordinates with insurance carriers and HR, and recommends corrective action/training to prevent recurrence
- Manages fire suppression systems (sprinklers, extinguishers, alarms) in partnership with Facilities to ensure compliance with NFPA standards and local fire codes.
- Schedules and verifies required fire inspections, testing, and certifications for each location.
- Develops fire safety procedures and evacuation plans; ensures staff are trained in use of extinguishers and emergency response protocols.
Qualifications
Job Requirements:
- Bachelor’s or Associates degree in Occupational Safety, Risk Management, Public Health, Exercise Science, Business Administration, or related field (required).
- Minimum 5-years experience in a Risk/Safety management role supporting multi-unit/multi-state operations
- Required Certifications: OSHA 30-Hour Certification (General Industry); Certified Safety Professional (CSP) or Associate Safety Professional (ASP); First Aid/CPR/AED Instructor Certification; Certified Risk Management Professional (CRMP)
- Excellent analytical skills with ability to identify trends and recommend corrective actions.
- Strong written/verbal communication skills; comfortable presenting training to groups.
- Ability to manage multiple priorities across 200+ locations in a fast-paced environment.
- Competence in Microsoft Office Suite (Excel for trend reporting, PowerPoint for training).
- Strong interpersonal skills to influence managers, club leaders, and staff.
- Ability for overnight and daily travel 50% of the time
