GENERAL DESCRIPTION: 

The purpose of this position is to coordinate and participate in the day to day customer facing circulation desk operations, and activities at the headquarters branch. This position provides circulation staff leadership and training, as well as creates schedules that ensure coverage at the library and maintains the usability of the facilities for patrons. The Circulation Manager collaborates closely with circulation staff, providing support and addressing issues for both staff and patrons. Additionally assists the Branch Services Manager with the daily management of the library and collection areas to include coordinating with the acquisitions department to maintain the library collection, reconciling fines and fees, compiling daily and monthly statistical reports, and providing customer assistance to patrons.

· Supervises others and performs all circulation duties, including opening and closing procedures, shelving materials, and maintaining cleanliness and order in the shelves and library.

· Assists patrons in locating materials, using the electronic catalog system and other library equipment; advises patrons of the availability of new resources and library services.

· Provides minor computer troubleshooting for patrons.

· Organizes programs, prepares displays, and decorates.

· Assists in the hiring and training of part-time staff.

· Supervises and schedules part-time staff.

· Compiles and reports statistics for individual library branches, including daily money reports.

· Generates reports to reconcile fines and manage library operations.

· Serves on various library-related committees and assists in organizing library events.

· Orders, processes, indexes, or maintains materials.

· Alerts the Acquisitions Manager of purchasing needs.

· Creates promotional materials for library programming, such as bookmarks and flyers.

· Assists with library programming such as preschool story time, book or activity clubs, seasonal or holiday displays, and crafting activities.

· Trains new staff.

· Provides guidance and supervision to volunteers.

· Visits local businesses, churches, schools, and community organizations to display promotional materials and market library services.

· Reserves meeting rooms.

· Maintains records of library meeting room use by external parties.

· Reviews resumes, schedules interviews, and hires individuals for part-time positions.

· Reviews library card applications for accuracy within the library system.

· Acts as a point of contact for building maintenance in the absence of the director.

· Performs other related duties as assigned.

Requirements

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES: 

Knowledge of standard library functions, practices, and procedures.

Knowledge of copiers, printers, microfilm machines, and other library machines.

Familiarity with computers, e-reader tablet technology, and the internet.

Ability to use Microsoft Office Suite and Publisher.

Knowledge of resource materials and general reference materials.

Good money skills and computation skills.

Good customer service and interpersonal skills.

Ability to communicate effectively orally and in writing.

Ability to set priorities and self-motivated.


EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:

Associate's degree in a related field, and one (1) year of related work experience; or an equivalent combination of education, training, and experience that provides the required knowledge, skills, and abilities.


LICENSES, CERTIFICATIONS, OR REGISTRATIONS:

PHYSICAL DEMANDS: 

The work is medium work which requires exerting up to 50 pounds of force occasionally, and/or up to 30 pounds of force frequently, and/or up to 10 pounds of force constantly to move objects. 

This position has the following special vision requirements: close vision (clear vision at 20 inches or less); distance vision (clear vision at 20 feet or more); color vision (ability to identify and distinguish colors); peripheral vision (ability to observe an area that can be seen up or down and to the left and right when vision is fixed on a given point); depth perception (three-dimensional vision, ability to judge distances and spatial relationships); adjust focus (ability to adjust the eye to bring an object into sharp focus). 


WORK ENVIRONMENT: 

Work is performed in a relatively safe, and secure work environment. The work is typically performed while intermittently standing, stooping, walking, bending, or crouching. The employee frequently lifts light and heavy objects, climbs ladders, and uses tools or equipment requiring a high degree of dexterity.
