Job Summary
The Healthcare Compliance Coordinator supports the Compliance Officer in executing and maintaining the organization’s compliance program within a not-for-profit Federally Qualified Health Center (FQHC). This role ensures adherence to federal and state healthcare regulations, HIPAA Privacy rules, internal policies, and ethical standards. The ideal candidate will be detail-oriented, proactive, and capable of fostering a culture of compliance across departments and practice centers.
Key Responsibilities
- Assist in the development, implementation, and monitoring of the organization’s compliance program.
- Conduct internal audits and risk assessments to identify potential compliance issues.
- Maintain documentation of compliance activities, including meeting minutes, reports and investigations, training materials, and regulatory audits.
- Coordinate with HR and deliver compliance training sessions for staff.
- Monitor regulatory changes and assist in updating policies and procedures accordingly.
- Support the investigation and resolution of compliance-related complaints or incidents.
- Collaborate with departments such as HR, Decision-Support,, and Clinical Operations to ensure consistent compliance practices.
- Prepare reports for the Compliance Officer and senior leadership on compliance metrics and findings.
- Serve as a point of contact for compliance inquiries and guidance.
- Assist Privacy Officer to ensure compliance with HIPAA Privacy regulations, including oversight of privacy practices, breach notification procedures, and staff training.
- Assist in the development and implementation of HIPAA Privacy policies and procedures.
- Support the organization's mission and values as a not-for-profit FQHC, ensuring compliance efforts align with community health goals.
Minimum Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Healthcare Administration, Legal Studies, Public Health, or a related field.
- 2+ years of experience in healthcare compliance, auditing, or regulatory affairs preferred.
- Working knowledge of HIPAA, CMS, OIG guidelines, and other relevant healthcare regulations and/or willingness to learn.
- Dedication to maintaining confidentiality and strong ethical standards.
- Strong organizational, documentation and report writing skills.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite and compliance management software.
Preferred Qualifications & Skills
- Certified in Healthcare Compliance (CHC) or working toward certification.
- Certified in HIPAA Privacy Compliance (CHPC) or working toward certification.
- Experience with electronic health records (EHR) systems and healthcare billing practices.
- Excellent communication, interviewing and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to manage multiple projects and deadlines in a fast-paced environment.
- Analytical mindset with attention to detail and problem-solving abilities, Fundamental Statistical Techniques a plus.
