Controller - Residential Mortgage Division at Georgia Banking Company

Description

The Controller will oversee all financial operations and activities of Georgia Banking Company Home Loans, our Residential Mortgage Division.  This role ensures accurate financial reporting, regulatory compliance, and effective financial management to support strategic business goals. The Controller will lead the mortgage accounting tasks and collaborate closely with Finance leadership and business line leadership to optimize financial performance.

Key Responsibilities:

• Manage and oversee daily operations of the mortgage accounting, including accounts payable, accounts receivable, general ledger, and bank reconciliations.
• Prepare accurate and timely financial statements, reports, and analyses for internal and external stakeholders.
• Develop and maintain internal control systems to safeguard financial assets.
• Ensure compliance with federal, state, and local financial regulations, including mortgage industry standards.
• Coordinate budgeting and forecasting processes, providing strategic insights and recommendations.
• Monitor cash flow, accounts, and other financial transactions.
• Work closely with auditors, preparing necessary documentation and ensuring smooth audit processes.
• Implement and optimize financial systems and software for efficiency and accuracy.
• Provide leadership and direction to the accounting team, fostering a culture of high performance and continuous improvement.
• Analyze financial data to identify trends, variances, and opportunities for cost savings.
• Ensure accurate reporting and remittance of taxes and regulatory filings.
• Collaborate with cross-functional teams to support company objectives and initiatives.
• Aid, assist, recommend and/or help implement a mortgage banking software solution for accounting activities.

Requirements

• Bachelor's degree ideally in Accounting, Finance, or related field. CPA designation strongly preferred.
• 5+ years of experience in accounting or financial management, preferably within the mortgage or financial services industry.
• Must have residential mortgage accounting experience.
• Strong knowledge of mortgage industry regulations and financial reporting requirements.
• Proficiency with accounting software and Microsoft Office Suite.
• Excellent leadership, communication, and analytical skills.
• High attention to detail and strong organizational skills.
• Ability to manage multiple priorities and meet tight deadlines.

Preferred Skills:

• Experience with financial software specific to the mortgage industry.
• Advanced knowledge of GAAP and financial analysis methodologies.
• Strong problem-solving skills and strategic thinking ability.

Location: 

• This position is hybrid (at least 3x per week on-site) and can be based out of our Duluth, GA (Sugarloaf) or Buckhead, GA offices.
