SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES 

None.


SUMMARY 

Responsible for providing instruction and guidance to participants related to job search preparedness, including conducting participant objective assessments that gauge career interests, aptitudes and abilities.

Assist in the fulfillment of the Agency’s vision, “For Those We Serve,” by empowering individuals who thrive as healthy, self-sufficient and contributing members of our communities. 


DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES/ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

Provides instruction related to enhancement of individual skills related to resume development, and job application completion.

Assists in administering standardized assessment tests to gauge clients' academic skills, occupational interests and aptitude.

Evaluates and reports participant job readiness and occupational skills competencies to assigned Academic and Career Advisor(s).

Assists participants with enhancing interviewing techniques utilizing video equipment.

Develops workshop content to meet the needs of employers and special target groups of job seekers.

Provides input in writing and/or in case staff meetings to Academic and Career Advisor(s) concerning customer service needs identified during the workshop.

Physically sets-up classroom and materials, answers telephones, takes messages, and schedules appointments.

Assists customers in accessing and utilizing the Cal Jobs system.

Travels for agency business using reliable transportation.

Maintains regular attendance and punctuality. 

Works evenings and weekends as required.

Performs other duties as assigned.


QUALIFICATIONS

EDUCATION:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Counseling, Social Work, Psychology, Education or a related field required.   Additional related work experience may substitute required education on a year-by-year basis.

EXPERIENCE:

  • Minimum of three years related work experience in the area of employment and training.


OTHER QUALIFICATIONS:

Knowledgeable of local labor market demands, and test interpretation and validation procedures.

Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite and related business software.  

Effective presentation, organizational, written and verbal communication skills. 

Willing to work non-traditional hours and days to meet the needs of this position.

Bilingual in English and Spanish, Hmong or other secondary language desirable based on the needs of the clients and the program.

Prior to employment must pass and maintain required background investigation including acceptable criminal record statement, Department of Justice fingerprint clearance, and child abuse index clearance.

Maintain a valid California driver’s license, reliable transportation, adequate auto insurance as required by State law, and insurability by agency carrier for those driving agency vehicles.
