Job Summary:
The Director of Infection Prevention is responsible for developing, implementing, and overseeing a comprehensive infection prevention and control program across Grady Health System. This role ensures compliance with regulatory and accreditation standards, drives evidence-based practices to reduce healthcare-associated infections (HAIs), and fosters a culture of safety and continuous improvement in alignment with Grady’s mission to provide high-quality care to all.
Job Responsibilities:
Leadership & Strategy:
- Lead the strategic direction, planning, and execution of the Infection Prevention program.
- Serve as the subject matter expert on infection control, providing consultation to executive leadership, clinical departments, and support services.
- Chair the Infection Prevention Committee and serve as a key member of hospital quality and safety committees.
Surveillance & Reporting
- Oversee surveillance of HAIs and other communicable diseases using NHSN definitions.
- Ensure accurate and timely reporting to CDC/NHSN, Georgia Department of Public Health, CMS, and other regulatory bodies.
- Assist with root cause analyses and data-driven interventions for infection events or trends.
Compliance & Accreditation
-Ensure compliance with all relevant standards from The Joint Commission, CDC, OSHA, CMS, and other regulatory or accrediting agencies.
- Prepare and lead infection control components of accreditation surveys and regulatory visits.
Education & Training
- Develop and deliver infection prevention education and training for physicians, nurses, ancillary staff, and contractors.
- Provide just-in-time coaching and serve as a resource to departments regarding infection control practices.
Policy Development
- Oversee the development, review, and revision of system-wide infection prevention policies and protocols.
- Collaborate with departments such as Environmental Services, Facilities, Sterile Processing, and Pharmacy to ensure integration of infection control best practices.
Education:
- Bachelor’s Degree in Nursing, Public Health, Epidemiology, Microbiology, or a related healthcare field.
- Master’s Degree in Public Health, Nursing, or Healthcare Administration.
- Eight (8) or more years of job-related experience
- Minimum 5–7 years of progressive experience in infection prevention in a hospital setting.
- Minimum 3 years in a leadership or management role in infection prevention.
- Experience in a large academic medical center or safety-net health system.
- Familiarity with NHSN, EPIC, infection control analytics platforms.
- Certification in Infection Control (CIC)
- Deep knowledge of infection prevention science and standards.
- Strong data analysis and reporting skills.
- Excellent interpersonal, communication, and presentation skills.
- Ability to lead multidisciplinary teams and influence practice change.
- Demonstrated ability to manage complex projects and drive improvement.
