Job Summary:
The Construction Design Manager will oversee and coordinate various design projects from start to finish, ensuring that schedules and budgets are followed. The manager’s ability to drive the team to deliver projects according to established schedules is critical to the ability of all i3 Broadband business units to meet their goals.
Key Responsibilities:
Supervisory:
- Monitor team performance, provide regular coaching and feedback to team members; celebrate employee successes through recognition and promotion.
- Coordinates engagement between the design team and stakeholders to develop regional priority plans capable of delivering long-term company production goals.
- Direct the work of design team technicians. Some direct reports may be remote requiring periodic travel to other market regions.
- Selects, contracts, and oversees contractors for specific needs including but not limited to design, revisions and quality control.
Duties:
- Schedules and coordinates projects in logical steps and budget the time necessary to meet each deadline.
- Serves as the owner of the construction design process, guiding the transition from business development to construction diagrams/prints.
- Monitors vendor performance, develops and implements strategies for improvements where needed, and replaces vendors if required.
- Develops and maintains good working relationships with a variety of people, including colleagues, vendors, and government officials.
- Prepares and submits budget estimates and regularly communicates with stakeholders concerning budget progress and costs.
- Ensures adherence to the budget and, when unexpected complications or issues arise, makes quick and necessary adjustments.
- Supports contract negotiations, revisions, and adherence by all parties.
- Coordinates and problem-solves.
- Performs other related duties as assigned.
Qualifications:
Education and Experience:
- Bachelor’s degree in engineering, GIS, Project Management or a related field or comparable industry experience required.
- Minimum five years of progressive leadership development.
- Minimum 2 years of telecommunications construction or design experience preferred.
Skills and Competencies:
- Demonstrated experience in fiber network structure and design within a CAD/GIS environment.
- Advanced knowledge of project management software such as Smartsheet, MS Project or Jira.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
- Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite or related software.
- Thorough understanding of contracts, plans, specifications, and regulations.
- Ability to remain flexible and efficient in a fast-paced environment.
- Ability to make intelligent and quick decisions, and work well under pressure, particularly when faced with unexpected occurrences or delays.
- Ability to effectively multitask while analyzing and solving problems.
- Ability to work both independently on the heads-down analytical work and collaboratively as part of a team when needed to solve problems
- Thorough understanding of engineering and other construction drawings.
- Clean driving record required, with the ability to travel locally and occasionally overnight.
Working Conditions:
- Must be able to sit at a desk for extended periods, working at a computer up to 8 hours per day.
- Ability to communicate orally and in writing.
- Some travel required
- Excellent visual acuity when inspecting drawings and blueprints.
- Must be on-call to address delays, emergencies, bad weather, and other issues at the job site.
