Position Summary

The Forklift Mechanic is responsible for inspecting, diagnosing, repairing, and maintaining forklifts and other material-handling equipment to ensure safe and efficient operation. This role involves both preventive maintenance and emergency repairs, with a focus on minimizing equipment downtime and maximizing productivity.

Key Responsibilities

  • Perform routine inspections, preventive maintenance, and safety checks on forklifts and related equipment.
     
  • Diagnose mechanical, electrical, hydraulic, and pneumatic issues using manuals, schematics, and testing equipment.
     
  • Repair or replace defective parts, such as engines, transmissions, brakes, steering systems, hydraulics, and electrical components.
     
  • Maintain accurate records of all service and repair work performed.
     
  • Ensure compliance with OSHA, company safety policies, and manufacturer maintenance standards.
     
  •  Troubleshoot equipment failures promptly.
     
  • Order and maintain inventory of parts, supplies, and tools as needed.
     
  • Collaborate with supervisors, operators, and other maintenance staff to prioritize and complete work orders.
     
  • Keep work areas clean, organized, and in compliance with safety regulations.

Requirements

  

  • 2+ years of experience in equipment or heavy machinery repair (forklift experience strongly preferred).
     
  • Strong knowledge of mechanical, hydraulic, and electrical systems.
     
  • Ability to read and interpret technical manuals, schematics, and diagnostic reports.
     
  • Proficient with hand tools, power tools, and diagnostic equipment.
     
  • Valid driver’s license; forklift certification a plus.
     
  • Strong problem-solving and troubleshooting skills.
     
  • Ability to work independently and manage multiple tasks.
     

Physical Requirements

  • Ability to lift up to 50 lbs. regularly and occasionally more with assistance.
     
  • Prolonged standing, bending, kneeling, and working in various positions.
     
  • Exposure to loud noises, fumes, grease, and moving equipment.
     

Work Environment

  • Primarily in a warehouse, manufacturing facility, or outdoor yard setting.
