Position Summary
The Forklift Mechanic is responsible for inspecting, diagnosing, repairing, and maintaining forklifts and other material-handling equipment to ensure safe and efficient operation. This role involves both preventive maintenance and emergency repairs, with a focus on minimizing equipment downtime and maximizing productivity.
Key Responsibilities
- Perform routine inspections, preventive maintenance, and safety checks on forklifts and related equipment.
- Diagnose mechanical, electrical, hydraulic, and pneumatic issues using manuals, schematics, and testing equipment.
- Repair or replace defective parts, such as engines, transmissions, brakes, steering systems, hydraulics, and electrical components.
- Maintain accurate records of all service and repair work performed.
- Ensure compliance with OSHA, company safety policies, and manufacturer maintenance standards.
- Troubleshoot equipment failures promptly.
- Order and maintain inventory of parts, supplies, and tools as needed.
- Collaborate with supervisors, operators, and other maintenance staff to prioritize and complete work orders.
- Keep work areas clean, organized, and in compliance with safety regulations.
Requirements
- 2+ years of experience in equipment or heavy machinery repair (forklift experience strongly preferred).
- Strong knowledge of mechanical, hydraulic, and electrical systems.
- Ability to read and interpret technical manuals, schematics, and diagnostic reports.
- Proficient with hand tools, power tools, and diagnostic equipment.
- Valid driver’s license; forklift certification a plus.
- Strong problem-solving and troubleshooting skills.
- Ability to work independently and manage multiple tasks.
Physical Requirements
- Ability to lift up to 50 lbs. regularly and occasionally more with assistance.
- Prolonged standing, bending, kneeling, and working in various positions.
- Exposure to loud noises, fumes, grease, and moving equipment.
Work Environment
- Primarily in a warehouse, manufacturing facility, or outdoor yard setting.
