District Description:
Ypsilanti Community Schools is a small urban district conveniently centered around the major freeways (I-94 & US-23) within 5 minutes of Eastern Michigan University, 15 minutes from the University of Michigan. We have approximately 400 students, 3 Early Childhood Learning Centers, 1 Multilingual Elementary, 1 International Baccalaureate with Prek-5, 3 Elementaries, 1 Middle School, and 1 High School which features 2 programs within the building STEM and AC Tech, and 1 Alternative Education building (ACCE).
Position Description:
This position is responsible for managing the transportation office and supporting effective communication with staff, students, and families within Ypsilanti Community Schools. Key responsibilities include producing and distributing a monthly newsletter, scheduling and facilitating monthly safety meetings, reviewing invoices and submitting them to the director for approval, covering office absences as needed, assisting with telephone and radio communications, greeting guests for professional development and other transportation-related needs, and performing general office duties such as filing. This role also serves as the last point of contact for accidents and traffic updates when the Safety Coordinator or Transportation Director is unavailable.
Qualifications:
High School Diploma/GED
Possess a valid Michigan CDL License
Proficient in Microsoft Office
Ability to pass a LiveScan background check
Position Responsibilities:
Receive, screen, direct, and analyze telephone and radio calls. Communicate detailed sequential instructions to drivers for efficient transportation services.
Act as receptionist, responding to information requests, ticket, and pass purchases; addresses routine questions and/or concerns.
Resolve many issues independently, while referring more complex situations to the appropriate supervisor.
Establish and maintain a comprehensive filing and records retention system. Access and provide information as requested.
Responsible for maintaining proficiency in all assignments and functions of transportation services coordination.
Provide clerical support activities; data entry; collection and summarization of data; prepare reports; file using Microsoft Office.
Create and maintain department newsletter.
Maintain a comprehensive knowledge of regional transportation resources, service geography, and road conditions.
Receive and disseminate information regarding traffic accidents, delays, breakdowns, and such.
