Palo Verde College is a publicly supported 2-year college located in the beautiful Southeastern California desert.  Yearly enrollment is approximately 7,000 students (full and part-time).

LOCATION

Palo Verde College is located in the City of Blythe at one of the busiest entrance points to California.  The college is located in a desert oasis adjacent to the beautiful Colorado River and the Palo Verde Valley.  Blythe, and the fertile Palo Verde Valley, is primarily a farming and ranching area.   Boating, fishing and hunting attract many tourists.  The Palo Verde Valley is centrally located between Phoenix and Los Angeles, Las Vegas and the Mexican border.  The valley’s great climate, with more than 350 days of sunshine and mild winters, attracts thousands of winter visitors every year.

NATURE OF THE POSITION
Under the supervision of the Dean of Instruction  or designee the Specialist/Coordinator shall perform skilled clerical, networking and outreach duties to provide Career Technical Education (CTE) and Nursing students with employment/clinical placement opportunities.

NATURE OF THE ASSIGNMENT
To seek employer partnerships to expand the college’s presence within the community, obtain new employment/ internships/apprenticeship/opportunities for students, and weave employers into the thread of the community colleges Career Technical Education hemisphere.
The Short Term Temporary employee will serve as a conduit between employers and college services to ensure that employers
have access to a range of opportunities; Foster relationships with employers to identify employment and work-based
(apprenticeship, internship, etc.) opportunities; Outreach to individual businesses and participate in local industry/business meetings
(e.g., Chamber of Commerce); Assist with employer participate on in CTE advisories, events, skills panels, job fairs, etc; Use CRM platform, HubSpot, to record/track employer engagement efforts and engagement outcomes; Collaborate on IEDRC regional initiatives (e.g., Energy and Infrastructure Summit, Faculty Retreat, Counselor Conclave).

Position Duties

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
1. Contacting local businesses and government agencies to identify apprenticeship and employment opportunities for Career and Technical Education students after program completion.
2. Assisting with the development, recruitment, planning and coordination of industry advisory groups and their members.
3. Working with the College’s CTE programs and faculty to develop partnerships and relationships within the community to develop work experience and internship opportunities.
4. Composing and producing typewritten letters, emails, memos, meeting minutes and other related documents.
5. Creating brochures, flyers, newsletters and advertisements for CTE programs of study, career pathways, employment information and CTE public relations.
6. Collaborating with the Transfer Office to offer presentations, lectures, workshops, and interview panels on various employment topics such as launching a job search, preparing employment applications, resume writing and interview techniques.
7. Disseminating information about internship and employment opportunities.
8. Collaborating with the Transfer Office and local businesses to coordinate career fairs at the College.
9. Ensuring that clinical placements are finalized at least three months prior to the start of the each semester.
10. Soliciting feedback from clinical facilities, faculty and students on the appropriateness of placement for the achievement of student learning outcomes. Compiling and analyzing clinical data to participate in the preparation and development of program goals.
11. Preparing and distributing a Master Calendar to include: (1) all participating clinical sites, courses, dates and time of attendance; (2) faculty contact information; (3) student assignment for each unit; and (4) required orientation dates for students and nursing program faculty.
12. Identifying potential concerns with student placements. Serving as “point of contact” for resolution of clinical personnel issues that may arise between clinical staff and the clinical group assigned to the faculty.
13. Ensuring compliance with the California Board of Vocational Nursing and Psychiatric Technicians regulations regarding clinical placements for nursing students. Gaining knowledge of clinical requirements for Allied Health programs and assisting with placement of students.
14. Working in conjunction with clinical faculty and Skills Lab Coordinator to establish clinical/simulation schedules and alignment of clinical experience with course goals.
15. Collaborating with teaching teams in planning practice placements and assignments.
16. Contacting and assessing appropriate sites for practice experiences, including specialty clinical areas appropriate to student levels and intended curriculum requirements.
17. Acting as a resource for faculty, staff, and students regarding contacts, policies and procedures for the various practice placements.
18. Maintaining a database of agencies for placements, and ensuring affiliation agreements are current.
19. Developing and distributing recruitment materials to potential clinical sites.
20. Assisting with preparation of required grant funded narrative and expenditure reports.
21. Participating in District and Region sponsored professional development programs.
22. Maintaining a friendly, supportive atmosphere for students, staff, faculty and the public.
23. Performing other position related duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS
1. Associate’s Degree from an accredited institution.
2. Two years of related experience in event planning, personnel departments and/or employment agencies is required.
3. Knowledge of job placement methods, interviewing skills and job preparation skills.
4. Knowledge of and proficiency in the utilization of standard office productivity software programs (e.g., MS Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook), personal computers, and the internet.
5. Ability to communicate effectively orally and in writing.
6. Type at 50 wpm.
7. Passage of the College's clerical skills tests.
8. Ability to represent the College to business and industry; exercise judgment and initiative; work with students with special needs; work effectively with students, faculty, administrators, staff and community partners.
9. Demonstrated sensitivity to and understanding of the diverse academic, social, economic, cultural, disability and ethnic backgrounds of community college students.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
1. Bachelor’s degree from an accredited institution.
2. Ability to speak, read, and write Spanish.

CLASSIFICATION/SALARY
1. This is a short-term temporary position. May include evening and weekend duty.
2. Row 13 on the salary schedule.
3. This position is contingent upon continued categorical funding.

Non-academic, non-classified short-term employees are not part of classified service. Non-academic, non-classified short-term employees are at-will employees, have no entitlement rights to any position in the District, and are not benefits eligible. Short-term employment shall not result in the displacement of Classified personnel.

Non-academic, non-classified short-term employees perform services and tasks, which once completed, will not be extended or needed on a continuing basis. Short-term non-classified employees perform services that are not re-occurring and are not a permanent component of the District's operations. Short-term employees may be employed to perform work at a one-time event that occurs on an irregular basis.
