This position supports the work of the Y, a leading nonprofit committed to strengthening community through youth development, healthy living and social responsibility. The YELC Assistant Director will work closely with the YELC Director to develop and evaluate the programs for the Early Learning Center. The Assistant Director must understand the basic concepts of a non-profit organization and the structure of the YMCA as a partnership of volunteers and staff, and accept the YMCA mission.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
- Responsible for scheduling, training, and development of the YELC staff of teachers.
- Assist the director in managing and supervising part-time staff members.
- Serves as mentor, providing age appropriate education expertise and support to Program Directors
- Promote the "YMCA Story" in the community.
- Maintain safe program areas, including indoor and outdoor areas, YMCA and non-YMCA facilities and equipment.
- Maintain a clean center and help monitor cleaning maintenance crew.
- Maintain accurate inventory of all equipment related to the program.
- Follow systems, practices, and training related to risk management and safety of participants and staff members.

QUALIFICATIONS:
- Requires a Bachelor’s Degree in Childcare, Education, Child Development, Behavioral Science or related field or equivalent experience in lieu of education requirement
- Be at least 21 years of age.
- Minimum of two years experience in administration, staff supervision and promotion is required, to administer the programs, fiscal and personnel policies of the Association.
- Employee will need to qualify as a licensed director under TDFPS standards .
- Must understand the basic concepts of a non-profit organization, as well as the structure of the YMCA as a partnership of volunteers and staff, and accept a commitment to the YMCA mission.
- Requires knowledge of computer software application and hardware. Employee must have working knowledge of a Mac environment, Gmail, and Microsoft Office Suite. Excellent written and verbal communication skills
- Certifications required within the first 60 days of hire: YMCA approved basic life saving skills such as CPR, First Aid, AED, and Emergency Oxygen.
- A Texas Driver’s license is required as well as capacity to drive to various locations within the greater San Antonio metropolitan area.
- Within first 120 days of hire, must complete all basic childcare and child abuse prevention training within 120 days of starting position.
WORK ENVIRONMENT & PHYSICAL DEMANDS:
- Work is performed in a fast-paced office, childcare room, and outdoor environments.
- Sufficient strength, agility and mobility to perform essential functions of position and to safely supervise children’s activities.
- Visual acuity is required for reading computer screens and/or documents and making changes as necessary/required.
- Job requires high levels of alertness and concentration. This position requires analytical abilities and multitasking in order to identify problems and recommend solutions.
- Job requires accuracy and attention to detail, organizational, and time management skills, while maintaining high levels of initiative in order to work within deadlines.
- Occasional stooping and bending with regular lifting of up to 20 pounds is required.
- Incumbent must be able to sit and stand for long periods of time, as well as, able to manipulate keyboards, telephone keypads, and writing utensils is essential.
