The Harris Center for Mental Health and IDD ("The Harris Center") is on the hunt for a dedicated Service Coordinator Mentor who is passionate about empowering individuals with intellectual disabilities. Under the general direction of the Program Director, the SC Mentor is responsible for mentoring service coordinators with performance of service coordination functions and activities. Functions and activities include but are not limited to; planning, training, providing consultation and problem solving, demonstrating, collaborative support, positive and non evaluative feedback, and emotional support. Position requires moderate to extensive travel to consumer homes and flexible scheduling.

Your Role in Action: 

  • Orients service coordinators with specific service coordination job functions and activities on an ongoing basis.
  • Assists service coordinators with solving work-related and other problems that interfere with his/her ability to provide effective and efficient services.
  • Provides ongoing mentorship and support training sessions, in the field and in the office, as needed for each service coordinator.
  • Develops and updates, on an as needed basis, mentorship training manuals that service coordinators will use as a guide.
  • Assists with the time management and organization skills of each service coordinator to ensure they meet their benchmarks.
  • Provides documentation of mentorship training on a weekly basis to the Program Director.
  • Communicates feedback to Program Director regarding status of progress or concerns identified for each service coordinator.
  • Complies with all safety, health, and training requirements
  • Performs all other duties as assigned

What qualifications do you need:

Education

  • Bachelor’s degree (B.A.) from four-year accredited college or university with a major in a social, behavioral, or human service field, including but not limited to: psychology, social work, medicine, nursing, rehabilitation, counseling, sociology, human development, gerontology, educational psychology, education, and criminal justice. 

OR

  • Bachelor’s degree (B.A.) from a four-year accredited college or university (see experience requirements below)

Experience:

  • Minimum of two (2) years full-time experience in the human services field OR two (2) years experience working with persons with Intellectual and Developmental Disabilities (if the bachelors degree is not in any of the focuses listed above).
  • Minimum of two (2) years Service Coordination experience preferred.

Other Key Qualifications

  • Must maintain a valid Texas Driver's License and be insurable under Agency policy.
  • Must have reliable transportation.

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:

  • Understanding of Intellectual and Developmental Disabilities and the aspects of the condition as it relates to the population served.
  • Must posses effective written, verbal communication, and organizational skills. Must be able to motivate, train and coach others.
  • Must be able to work autonomously in a fact paced environment.
  • Effectively communicates and works with staff, consumers, family members, visitors and other fellow employees in a manner that demonstrates knowledge of cultural diversity.
