SUMMARY: The Rail Fleet Analyst plays a key role in Seaboard Energy’s renewable fuels supply chain. This position manages railcar logistics across multiple processing plants, transloading yards, and rail carriers to ensure safe, efficient, and cost-effective product movement. The analyst supports fleet scheduling, vendor and lessor coordination, billing and invoice accuracy, and system data management. Success in this role directly impacts operational reliability, cost control, and Seaboard’s commitment to delivering sustainable energy solutions. 

 

RESPONSIBILITIES:  

 

Rail Fleet & Transloading Yard Management 

  • Manage railcar movements in coordination with plants, terminals, customers, Class I and short-line railroads, and transloading yards. 
  • Oversee car placement, loading/unloading efficiency, and turnaround times. 
  • Ensure empty cars are staged in advance to meet production and shipping schedules. 
  • Establish shipping patterns, prepare waybills before release cutoffs, and distribute Bills of Lading (BOLs). 

Systems & Data Management 

  • Maintain accurate rail logistics data in Kaleris and other proprietary portals. 
  • Ensure seamless data flow, reporting accuracy, and operational visibility across all sites and carriers. 

Performance Monitoring & Issue Resolution 

  • Track transit and cycle times; analyze projected vs. actual performance. 
  • Identify and resolve service issues such as idle times, bad-order cars, or missed service days. 
  • Monitor dwell times at terminals and yards, manage demurrage risks, and dispute inaccurate charges. 

Billing, Cost Control & Contract Management 

  • Process billing and invoicing for loaded and empty cars, transloading operations, and UP freight. 
  • Dispute incorrect freight charges and coordinate cost-efficient bad-order repairs or shop qualifications. 
  • Charge customers for demurrage when applicable. 
  • Support rail contract negotiations with lessors, vendors, and carriers to secure favorable terms. 

Reporting & Communication 

  • Distribute daily inbound railcar reports to plants, transloading yards, and logistics teams. 
  • Provide performance reports and fleet metrics to internal stakeholders. 
  • Serve as point of contact for CVR and TXNW Railroads. 
  • Communicate operational updates clearly to both internal teams and external partners. 

 

REQUIREMENTS: A successful candidate must possess the ability to perform each essential duty to a satisfactory level.   • Bachelor’s degree in Supply Chain, Logistics, or related field preferred. 
  • Minimum 2 years of experience in rail operations, fleet management, or related logistics field required. 
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite; experience with Kaleris, Right Angle, and/or ShipXpress preferred. 
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with ability to interpret cycle times, billing variances, and fleet performance data. 
  • Effective communicator able to present to and collaborate with multiple levels of internal and external stakeholders. 
  • Experience working with Class I railroads, short-line operators, or transloading facilities preferred. 

 

 

WORK ENVIRONMENT: Work environment is primarily office based with no noise hazards and minimal travel to other locations. 

 

NORMAL WORK SCHEDULE: Monday through Friday, working hours to be determined. Occasionally extended hours or changes in schedule will be required as special circumstances arise.
