A well established HVAC contractor serving the NY metro area, is seeking a Senior HVAC Estimator to join their team in Maplewood, NJ. This full time role is ideal for someone who enjoys digging into project details, producing accurate bids, and working alongside service, sales, and engineering teams.
What You’ll Do as the Senior HVAC Estimator:
- Review project scope, documentation, plans, and drawings; meet with clients and perform site visits to collect detailed requirements.
- Prepare estimates for commercial/industrial HVAC jobs: equipment replacements, retrofits, system upgrades, process cooling, etc.
- Work with AIA (or similar) contract documents; identify clauses or terms that affect project costs and risk.
- Solicit vendor and subcontractor bids; negotiate pricing while balancing cost, quality, and timelines.
- Collaborate with engineering, service, and sales teams to make sure estimates align with execution realities.
- Maintain cost databases; research labor, material, and equipment prices; develop accurate forecasts.
- Produce bid packages, ensure submissions meet client specifications, track competitive bids.
Must Haves as the Senior HVAC Estimator:
- Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering or a closely related field.
- At least 5 years estimating experience in commercial/industrial HVAC and/or process cooling projects.
- Strong analytical, mathematical, and research skills; high attention to detail.
- Proficiency in estimating software and Microsoft Office suite.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills; strong report writing ability.
- Experience gathering requirement documentation, managing project scope, handling negotiated pricing.
- Ability to forecast project costs reliably; experience with competitive bidding.
Nice to Haves as the Senior HVAC Estimator:
- Certified Professional Estimator (CPE) or similar credential.
- Prior experience working with AIA forms and contract clauses.
- Experience with Daikin VRV, Applied systems, or other VRF/VRV systems.
- Familiarity with productivity or project management software.
